USC Notes: More Thursday Gibberish

Lincoln Riley confirmed he did not have the Trojans watch film of the Washington game this week and cited the defensive coordinator change as a reason.

This is going to be a good test game at Oregon for the value of watching film.

  • Riley said the program is “back to relevance” when asked about Class of 2024 recruiting. Was USC irrelevant last year in recruiting when it was a prime candidate for the College Football Playoff going into the Pac-12 championship game?

This is another one of those gibberish comments Riley has increasingly made this season. This week alone, he said he was responsible for a big defensive turnaround at Oklahoma and he fired Alex Grinch because of the Pac-12 title race implications of the Oregon game.

I’m curious how many fans actually believe what Riley says on any topic these days.

  • Riley said tailback MarShawn Lloyd should be available for the Oregon game.
  • USC, UCLA, California, Oregon, Stanford and Washington beach volleyball are moving from the Pac-12 to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation next season. The Big Ten has only one beach volleyball team so this move was expected.

  7. What’s so strange, and frankly most troubling, is he actually believes thousands of Trojan fans are buying his fantasy talk that everything is great, we’ve progressed, the future is bright. Not even fanboys are buying it. Can he possibly really believe you can win a natty with a soft temperament team and a defense that couldn’t stop St. John Bosco ? I’m not sure what we have here.

  11. I realize costs are costs ‘but’ it would be nice were USC to field a mens hockey team. AZ St. has one – currently there are 7 schools in the Big 10 that play one another:

    WI, MN, MI, PA St., MI St., OH St. and ‘the princess’
