Saturday Buzz: My USC-Oregon Prediction

Lincoln Riley gets his first taste of Autzen Stadium tonight.
If that’s not enough, you know Dan Lanning will run up the score if he can.

Like I said earlier, this will go one of two ways for the defense: It will either play free with a simplified game plan and flourish. Or it will continue to suffer the same mistakes it has throughout the season.

I don’t think it will take much to improve the defense if it ditched Alex Grinch’s overcomplicated system. But will it be enough to make a difference?

Oregon has one of the best defenses USC faced this season. It also has one of the best offenses. Bo Nix is arguably the best QB the defense has faced. The Ducks are also well coached. And this will be the most hostile enviroment of the season.

On top of this, I don’t think Lincoln Riley can change the culture that he established all season.

So I’m going with Oregon, 56-31.

Now make your score prediction.

      1. It really is funny how many morons laugh at Trump walking carefully down a ramp. As if that is worse than Dementia Joe falling on his face a half dozen times (that we know of), including once when he broke his foot. They do not compare, except in the minds of those dumb enough to have thought dementia was a good idea.

  1. You know we have a running back with the best average yards per run. If we are going to have any chance in this game, we need to run the ball 35 or 40 times maybe more.

      1. Hmm, running the ball eats clock, keeps your defense off the field, theirs on, their offense off the field and it’s physical football, maybe the concept should make a comeback

  2. About a 50% chance of rain which could affect the scoring

This is an elimination game with the loser out of the Pac-12 championship race, so the Ducks might be a bit wobbly due to their nerves and make some mistakes

  5. Firing Grinch was a first step but of course will have no bearing on the outcome today. You have the defensive position coaches who are not considered locally or nationally as high level experts and developers of talent. Hopefully the next DC brings a competent staff that has the thirst to recruit. Because of LRs very tarnished reputation on a local and national level regarding all things defensive, this is a tall order for the new DC. I can see an up and comer taking the job, but we should regulate our expectations on snatching a blue ribbon DC. There are several names of guys i.e G Patterson who could be effective, but as long as the current position coaches are there, we won’t see the progress we’ve all been harping about. Oh LR needs to knock off the BS pressers using Helton-speak about all things being good, we are inches away, etc.

  6. It’s not going to go either way, the Trojans are going to get their ass whipped . Firing the defensive coordinator means absolutely nothing, because the culture of the program reflects the soft head coach. USC has been a fraud since Lincoln Riley took over, they hid behind a soft schedule and fooled a few people.

  7. Oregon’s stadium Autzen or ‘Ouchon’ as I call it
where drunk 20 year-olds will challenge 60ish Trojans to a fight
“I hate those colors you wear” he warned me
That’s the extreme of course while all other Duck fans are merely nonphysically in your face.

All stadiums have their crowds booooing-and-yelling at the opposition whenever it has the ball
But at Oregon in that small stadium it still is a shock the first time you hear the Ducks in unison screaming at SC as the game begins.

Careful here, you can’t have it both ways.

      2. Wow! Now you’re saying these protesters, who you brought to our attention, have the right to break through the cop’s barrier and should not be shot.

  8. I think I predicted last week an Oregon’s/USC score of 60-21 Oregon after watching another pathetic D performance against UW and I agree with Scott, Lanning will run up the score if he can.

I’ll now go with Oregon 45-34. SC covers and shows a little heart.

  11. Look at the uniform in the photo, because that’s the way the USC uniform should be. Black Nikes, white laces and socks, jersey tucked in. None of this individualistic crap with the black, red, and yellow tights, t-shirts and jerseys not tucked in, that started with Sark and Helton.

  12. My prediction is for what Scottie would predict, which I had at 49-24 Ducks.

I looked at Riley’s previous seasons at OK, trying to figure out why this season is going so far south. In 2020, Riley won 8 straight by an average of 26 points per game, including bearing 4 ranked teams and beating the number 6 and 7 teams at the end of the season. They beat #6 Florida by 35 in their bowl game.

Riley is looking more and more like a younger, taller, thinner Helton. Where is the guy from 2020?

My pick,, Waddlers 52, Trojans 34, with Waddlers emptying bench in 4th quarter. I wish it was different, but this is looking like another village idiot season.

Trojans have to get better O-line guys. it is not just a matter of coaching. Most of the o-line is getting overwhelmed trying to pass-block. They just aren’t good enough.

  13. Oregon should utterly humiliate USC…

but for some reason, I think that this game is going to be a bit closer. I think that USC’s defense is going to get some stops and I think Caleb and RIley are going to pull out every part of their playbook and will find a way to score enough to keep it close.

So I think USC only loses by 7 points. But if USC gets a couple really lucky flukes during the game, maybe they could scratch out a close win.

    Ducks 45- USC 38

    1. I’d be happy for a close loss. I’m hearing rumors of a lot of dissent among the defensive players. Guys like Eric Gentry(he won’t be back next year). I just hope the defense doesn’t decide to take the week off. At least play for pride.
LR made a career mistake(at least when it comes to his career at USC). I think that he’s lost the confidence from the defense. I don’t think that they believe in him anymore. The offense still thinks that he is a great coach but I think that he has lost the defense. Kiffin lost the team in 2012. He didn’t last much longer at USC.
SC is not that far from being an outstanding team. Their offense is as good as any. If they can just slow down Oregon, they can win this game. They had a close game against Arizona but Arizona is an outstanding team as is Utah(which SC almost beat). Utah will beat Washington today. I’d bet money on that and I’m not a bettor. What worries me is all the dissention I’m hearing from defensive players.

      1. i heard the same thing, but i think the coaches can motivate the players that they can show that Grinch was the problem, not the player talent. for example, I think Gentry will put it all out there on the field, to show that he is not “rusty”.

Gentry might be entering the TP, but he will be motivated to play tough so he gets alot of interest in the portal.

    1. The scene on the field where during a timeout Grench is talking to the defensive players and it didn’t even look like they were even listening and then he holds his right hand up to breakdown and everyone just walked away like they were saying “nothing he says ever works so why listen”……That scene said it all to me.
Bringing Grench back was a huge mistake which has actually hurt LR’s reputation some.

  14. Stinkin’ Lincoln has lost the team. He’s the white Deion Sanders only without the playing career or any personality. He’s a pimp, self serving, a lar, a fraud who doesn’t give a sht about USC or any kid that’s not part of his self promo fraud… His cracks about not caring about securing West Coast or California talent or the tradition feeder schools speaks to one of his true sentiments : he dislikes even resents all that USC stuff that has been the way to our success. USC to him is just big LA wallet to be hustled until the next grift.
