USC Morning Buzz: Another Job Link For Linc

Lincoln Riley’s name just keeps coming up for jobs.

Several college coaches told me yesterday that they heard Riley has interest in the Texas A&M job.

“He’s revered in Texas,” a college coach said. “He likes recruiting in Texas, has his high school connections. I think there’s something to it.”

Whatever is happening, there is definitely a lot of chatter regarding Riley. He’s not a particularly charasmatic figure, so I don’t think a lot of these coaches are going out of there way to hear things about Riley. But his name is coming up, from one side or another.

  1. The bloom has come off the LR rose at light speed. I thought that USC hit the jackpot when he was hired, but at this point, the program has regressed to what it was before, and I wouldn’t mind if he were to leave.

      1. USC with a Heisman winning QB, losing 4 of their last 5 games is reason enough to hand ‘Ol Mule Shoe his pink slip.

People will say it would cost USC too much money, but if you think about it the Trojan football program is owed for all the years it’s revenue has supported all the other athletic programs which is well over the $80 or so that owed to that clown Lincoln Riley.

USC needs to bite the bullet and pay to get out from under this curreny mess with Riley.

Joel Klatt goes into how bad the Trojan defense is…

      2. Hey Tebow let A&M buy out his contract at USC. That would be a power move by that roaming gnome Folt. Which I can’t fucin stand. She would be earning some of that salary if she did that.

    1. You hit it right on the head that’s exactly the way I see it. If you look at most of the coaches that have won the national championships going back to Pete Carroll they’re all defensive minded coaches.

  2. I think the USC job might require another kind of person. Riley’s personality might not fit at USC or in LA. Texas A&M can simply buy him athletes and they will get him a top defensive coordinator.

  3. Wow!………….. Scott now has several “coach voices” going off he his head. The idiot needs to seek help for this condition…..Instead, he’ll run with it, convincing himself that these so-called coaches are real.

The interesting part, no one else on the internet has reported Riley looking around at potential other jobs. And if someone else did report something related to Riley they claim their source was Scott Wolf.

Looks like Scott had the balls to tell Dan Patrick a big lie!

Scott will get down in the gutter if it can produce some artificial drama. He sounds more desperate than slo pa-troll!

  6. The grim reality is that if Riley does leave, then there is no getting around that the next coach will be somewhat of a crap shoot. Saban is the only sure bet out there, and he is near retirement and won’t be leaving ‘Bama in any case. For better or worse, the USC job is a lot tougher than those at top programs but that are in small media markets.

  7. I don’t think Riley’s leaving…yet. But who else could SC get?

Urban Myer? Damaged goods, plus Folt will never sign off on that.
    James Franklin? Consistently underperforms.
Luke Fickell? Nope, Mrs. Fickell won’t leave the Midwest.
Kiffin? Don’t laugh, he’s a lot more mature and a lot better coach than he was 10 years ago.
Chris Petersen? Worth a call to his agent, at least.
    David Shaw? The same.
Coach O? That could be interesting.

    1. The answer to USC’s problem is Chris Petersen.

Petersen and Jen Cohen know each other very well…he’s the real deal homerun hire.

Petersen has always been able to win more with less, he doesn’t need all the 5 star drama queen self entitled queens. He’ll recruit and win with blue collar kids

  8. Cowherd says that UCLA is firing Chip Kelly. Doesn’t recruit but develops talent. USC could do worse and he would have his whole staff come with him.

    1. Chip Kelly might work at USC; at least we know he would run the fucin ball. Plus bring in his DC with him. Then Fire all the garbage coaches that Riley brought with him.

  9. I was waiting for the rumors to get started. A&M could easily buy out LR contract at USC. USC, then can go get the right coach, that fits the identity, tradition and strengths of their program. Which starts with recruiting. They need a coach that gets it and wants to embrace the challenge and the risks of building a winner at a football factory in USC.

  10. Prior to any job search USC needs to figure out its NIL program.
Times have changed……USC does not recruit itself.
Getting a great coach is one thing…..getting the talent for development is another.

  11. Even if SC gets its act together and acquires the right coach (If Wiley isn’t it) and the right players the mathematical odds of the Trojans ever winning another football championship are remote–
In the 2024 Playoffs the Top 4 rated teams get a bye, and so the remaining 8 teams have to win 4-games to claim a National Championship (and even the Top-4 have to win 3 games against
    Top-12 competition)

So I guess I will be scaling back my expectations

    1. This is an excellent post.

Even when young I would muse on how USC would have fared had there been a playoff system going back to say the 1962 season. I believe USC would have won more titles with a playoff system from McKay-Pete (NFL caliber talent, good coaching, scheduled difficult non-conference opponents, best big game program in the country).

But as a great song by a ‘recent’ act (Envy of None – encourage folks to check out if you like music) puts it: “That was then, and this is now…” Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia, have had their stretches recently…but those days are at an end (made all the more certain by the fact that the rest of the country is alert to the dangers of the NCAA/SEC hit job and no long will take a Pat Haden approach in defending against – ie they fight back, most recently Kansas in basketball, but now Michigan in football)

  12. Scooter,

If Riley did leave, then there are a lot of moving wheels in this. Can Sorority girl hire the right guy or will she be too busy with serving cupcakes? I do not have confidence in her knowing about SC football and how important it is to the City. The heritage, history, and accomplishments leads you to knowing that this is one of the top programs and it needs to be treated that way. With going to the B1G, you want a coach that will know what it takes to win at SC and what it will take to win in the late fall back in the Midwest. Maybe look at a Michigian offensive or dcordinator for the head job. Maybe look at a head coach that knows offense but understands defense is even more important. Defense wins championships.

      1. What’s up with these trumpsters hating on women?

Jen Cohen has shown herself to be a very good athletic director, her resume speaks for itself.

Look at where Washington is compared to USC, the Huskies are rolling, improving over last years UDUB team, while this clown Lincoln Riley that USC hired has tanked.

And no Riley isn’t responsible for Caleb Williams winning a Heisman, Caleb’s natural born talent did that
