Thursday Buzz: Lincoln Says He Won’t Leave

Lincoln Riley told the Athletic he is not going to the NFL.

“Hell no. I’m coaching at SC. Period.”

Usually, this is the kind of comment that reassures fans and makes them happy. I suspect plenty of USC fans will be unhappy with his answer, however.

The fact Riley did an interview with the Athletic shows he is feeling the heat because he rarely does one-on-one interviews.

  • Linebacker Desman Stephens, who previously committed to Boston College, has committed to USC. Stephens, a three-star prospect, is from Clarkston, Mich.

  1. Riley’s response is the rote response of any coach, until a better offer comes along. And Riley (at $10 million/year, and the Palos Verdes Estate), won’t be getting a better offer.

      1. You know what I hate, 67? Scott called this one before the season started. I was hoping he was wrong about Riley.

      2. I said 6-6 last year. Sans the ridiculous turnover margin and the untimeliness of some said turnovers there now about where I thought they’d be. And minus the Mississippi St QB transferring (the portal is ruining the sport) in Mike’s right about next year.

    1. MG-As with ’67, I in particular welcome you back (and have largely been ignorant of the drama … and ignore purposefully … et al) – in fact even have at times served as a fill-in for you … as to the program … if you recall when I copyrighted “OU-SC” … nothing has gotten better since the final minute at Columbus in 2009 … and won’t so long as the current junta retains power. Welcome back.

      1. Agree. As a certain person [namely Gabby] pointed out, I got ahead of my skis on the whole “Riley as THE answer” thing. When the players started getting surly with the beat reporters after practices I realized something was VERY wrong in the locker….and it probably can be traced to Riley’s approach to football as a purely skill driven affair. I have never heard Riley use the word “discipline” —- I’m pretty sure the team hasn’t either.

    2. There’s nowhere for this clown Lincoln Riley to go, he coached himself out of any job consideration, college or pro.

No one wants that Bozo, he’s a fraud.

Wait until next year, he won’t make it to midseason before USC wises up and fires his ass, no matter how much he’s owed on his contract.

  2. Riley should have been truthful and said

” Yeah, I’m stuck at USC because I fucked this season up so bad not even a brain dead NFL owner wants me now and no college will touch me with that buyout. But I still get that fat contract paid to me every year even if I’m a shitty coach, or get canned, so it’s all good “

  3. Scooter,

Too bad he is not leaving. We have another Chip Kelly/Helton situation until he leaves. SC’s recore will be around 6-6 every year until he is gone. SC has sunk to a mide level team. They will live off their heralds from the last 60 years. SC is dead in terms of football and being a great university.

  4. He signed a 10 yr contract, and now faces SC moving to B10. Next SC schedule will be similar to the last 6 games of this year, all physical teams. I expect he will get a ‘D’ coaches that can prepare for this.
The linebacker is a 4 star where I have read, bu as usual wolfie found some one to rate him a 3 star and only reports that. I just want some one any star that is fast enough to cover a tight end and loves to tackle.

  5. So if Riley doesn’t do an interview Scott hates on him and if he DOES do an interview Scott hates on him.

Honest question Scott, do you still consider yourself a journalist?
