Bowl guru Jerry Palm has USC playing Maryland in the Las Vegas Bowl.
For the glass half-full crowd, it’s a Big Ten preview. The teams play Oct. 19 in College Park, Md.
For the glass half-empty crowd, it’s two 7-5 teams and unmotivated USC likely without Caleb Williams in a meaningless game.
Meaningless game is the correct comment.
Is this the most disappointing season ever?
I would say no. The 1988 team losing to ND #2 when SC was #1 and then losing in RB to MSUwas devastating since I was on the field for both games.

ND was #1 going into the SC game with Troy #2

Good to see the basketball team still knows how to lose games in the last seconds.

The picture of the Michigan faithful rushing the field after beating Ohio St
makes me wonder if they will rush the field if&when they beat SC in 2024

I think SC will fix the defensive problem. They’ll get a good DC. Will they fix the O-Line problems…..that’s the question. Or will they have a mediocre offense because they have a new QB and another poor O-Line.
SC just always seems to be a day late and a dollar short. They fix the problems a year after they should have fixed them and the players that they really want go somewhere else because other teams outbid SC moneywise.

You think lots of things that absolutely never come to pass. You’re not going to fix the dysfunction of Monte Kiffin, Orgeron, Justin Wilcox (should have kept him Clay Helton), Clancy Pendergast x2, Todd Orlando, and Mr. Grinch with ~120 days until Spring practice. It’s been 15 years of fuckery – you can’t fix that overnight when the head coach is unserious when it comes to defense. He obviously doesn’t know shit about defense and he’s the hiring authority for the defensive coordinator. It’s not getting fixed right away. If this was professional football yes, it could be fixed that fast. Not with idiot kids though.

that’s an excellent point. Maryland looked pretty good early in the year and kind of fizzled out but I would expect them to beat Usc pretty good if they do play each other.

Las Vegas Bowl Dec 23. Someone else has USC playing in the Los Angeles Bowl on Dec 16. what a disgrace that would be!

Don’t give up hope, Charles.
There’s still an outside chance for the playoffs ….

[Special Note to tebow: I’ve discovered a great UFO show on Fubo tv — farmers are interviewed about strange things they’ve seen above their fields…some of them have even been abducted for short periods….it’s very educational].

It’s NOT the meaningless bowl game that is important…it’s the critical 15 extra practices that the team gets after the regular season is over. This is when you coach up the younger players and get them much needed experience. Helton would routinely give the team a week off for rest/finals only to waste more than a third of this critical practice time. No wonder the guys didn’t improve. How about practicing our tackling or getting some experience for the likely starting QB against LSU in the opener next year. Just sayin’…Fight On!

One last chance to practice at full speed. One last chance to play at full speed. One last chance at redemption. Fuck yeah…let’s go play Maryland!

Scooter,
Scooter,
15 days of practice will not matter because Riley will have the samme type of practice that he had during the season and that is a soft and easy practice. The first 12 days should be full blown hitting and tackling. But Riley won’t

This is a chance for the team to get in some practice without Alex Grinch and probably let the younger players get some playing time. If I were Riley, I would be playing the offensive line with players who will be around next year – Paige at left tackle, Noa at right guard, maybe have Monheim at right tackle and Dedich at center so the younger players are not a total disaster.
Any team that doesnt get into a bowl game loses out on the chance to continue practicing and developing players for the next year.

I never thought I’d think this but USC should decline any bowl invite. Nobody cares anymore after we wildly failed all expectations; it’s going to be a other embarrassment. We all remember the Lane Kiffin Sun Bowl….
