Can Lincoln Riley Resist Taking QB?

Given how Lincoln Riley’s brain works, is he getting distracted from hiring a defensive coordinator by all the quarterbacks entering the transfer portal.

Mississippi State’s Will Rogers, Kansas State’s Will Howard, Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall and Duke’s Riley Leonard are just three quarterbacks who entered the portal this week.

Riley might offend Miller Moss and Malachi Nelson if he takes a QB but he’s got to start thinking about his job security and whether a new quarterback will help secure his status.

Plus, it’s more fun for him to ponder than to actually interview defensive coordinators.

  1. Wiley has got an enormous buyout so he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, his financial security is cemented but he is prideful and doesn’t want to go out as a one-dimensional coach, so expect a dramatic
    turn-around with his SC charges

    1. Miller Moss is at best a backup QB and an average one at that.

      That girl Mikayla Nelson is built like a ballerina, she thought she was terrified when she played Mater Dei and faked an injury in the 2nd qtr. in order to go watch from the sidelines where she couldn’t get hurt, wait until she sees the size of those boys in the B1G next year, she may either have to call it a career or turn her attention to flag football somewhere.

      I can tell you right now, Mikayla Nelson is probably already thinking she should have retired from football after her senior season in high school.

      She should take some acting classes, her last performance against Mater Dei stunk, not one person in the stadium believed she was hurt.

      1. When Jennifer Cohen accepted the Athletic Director job at USC she had no idea just how pathetic, insecure, narrow minded, stubborn, petty and overhyped Lincoln Riley really is.

        Now that she’s gotten a good look at this clown Riley, she probably wishes she should have stayed at Washington.

        Best case scenario for Cohen is that hopefully there’s an organization out there dumb enough to make Lincoln Riley an offer he can’t refuse and he leaves…the sooner ( no pun intended ) the better.

        Lincoln Riley isn’t sold on USC, he never was, but when an offer of $110 million dollars is thrown at you, of course ‘Ol Mule Shoe is going to take it.

        Lincoln Riley is just going through the motions, there is no sense of urgency, hell he doesn’t even appear to pretend to take the job seriously. The players see it, they can tell ‘Ol Mule Shoe’s heart ain’t in it.

      2. The guy had one bad year(7-5 and maybe 8-5) and people are calling him a fraud. All that team needs is a great DC and most of the problem is solved. They do have to do something about the O-Line.
        All the SC haters out there(and there’s a lot in the media) know that he is a good coach and they want to get rid of him. So they try to ruin his reputation(even among his players) by the things that they write.
        Mario Cristobal has been at Miami 2 years and he is 12-12. I haven’t heard any complaints about him. Why isn’t chrome dome Finebaum calling him a fraud.
        LR has only been there 2 years. He needs more time. The program would be a lot further along if he would have just listened to everyone who told him to get rid of Grench.
        Caleb is still thinking about coming back and I’m reading a lot of articles where the writers are saying that he would be crazy to come back. They fact is that these hate SC pundants who don’t want him to come back.

      3. Don’t forget that Miller Moss did not play football in his senior year due to Covid. They didn’t have a shortened season like many other high schools. He hasn’t played much football since his junior year in HS. He is a good QB and has been loyal to USC. He could be QB1 at most places. All he asked from LR is a fair QB battle when Caleb transferred in. Miller is a smart kid and graduated from USC in 2.5 years. He has two years available. Loyalty should be rewarded and considered.

      4. Bring in a new QB and you are going to lose Nelson and Moss so you will have to bring in 2 other QB’s.

        Nelson can’t throw. he is too skinny and weak. He throws short on his passes and they look wild. I think he will be a bust. Hoping he leaves. Moss, however, has an arm and he has and can control the offense and drive the ball. If Riley was smart, he would build an offense that would suit Moss. Power I, Rpo, play action fake, roll out, quick passes, counters. He has an arm and with practice and reps, I think he can do the job.

      7. So ‘Ol Mule Shoe threw the season away because he didn’t want to replace his friend Alex Grinch with a competent defensive coordinator.

        USC is paying this guy Lincoln Riley over $100 million dollars, the players have trusted that USC and Riley will provide them with the best opportunity to win, but that hasn’t been the case. With the kind of money that Riley is making he should always be looking to improve the team, instead he kept Grinch on as the DC knowing full well he wasn’t worth a shit.

        Taking loss after loss, watching as his players were not getting better, most of them constantly out of position, they can’t tackle for shit, a defensive clusterfuck that ruined the season and still this idiot Lincoln Riley didn’t want to fire Alex Grinch and if he has his way, he wouldn’t have.

        When you make the kind of money that Lincoln Riley makes you’re supposed to know what the fuck you’re doing, this shit about rewarding loyalty, keeping Grinch around because he folliwed Riley out to USC is bullshit.

        Alex Grinch can’t coach, he’s absolute dog shit and for Lincoln Riley to keep Grinch around knowing that the players weren’t going to develop, weren’t being given the best chance to succeed, the entire year, actually almost two years that Lincoln Riley subjected his players to a guy he only kept around because he is his friend, that right there is perpetrating a fraud.

        When you pull shit like that, you’re committing fraud, Riley knew what he was doing and he didn’t give a shit, all he gave were excuses and blame, the blame shamelessly directed at his players instead of where it should have been placed, on Alex Grinch and himself.

        So yeah, is Lincoln Riley a fraud?

        Yes, absofuckinglutely! Fuck Him!

        Threw an entire season away and for what, or should I say for who, Alex Grinch. Lincoln Riley is not just a fraud, he’s a fucking conman who doesn’t give a fuck.

        From 11-3 to most likely 7-6 and Lincoln Riley walks around like nothing happened and he doesn’t give a fuck because he’s going to get paid either way, never has to work another day the rest of his life.

        As for his reputation, Alex Grinch is now his reputation…absolute shit!

      1. I would. I think Caleb wanted out after Tulane—he returned early from an injury, played his heart out and got burned by Grinch. If he coulda left that early he would have.

    2. That’s because he didn’t listen to everyone and gone out and brought in a great DC. When you have a defense that couldn’t stop 11 chipmonks wearing cardboard helmets, shorts and high ankle tennis shoes it really doesn’t matter how good your offense is.
      He listened to Grench fast talk him into giving him another year and that year turned out to be the worst year SC has ever had on defense. I still think that he is an outstanding coach but he’s got to make better decisions(sometimes hard decisions) in the future.

  7. Let’s allow Lincoln Riley to stay on course with his bad decisions, so we can finally end this madness after next season. If it’s another quarterback, and more skill players he wants, instead of shoring up both sides of the line of scrimmage, then great ! Sometimes you have to painfully cheer for the opponent as I did with Clay Helton’s last two seasons. Because in order to move forward, on occasion you have to take two steps back .

      3. Parcel, the men haters (aka femi-nazis) have been around for quite a while. One of the best examples was the way they bashed Arnold for beating up a ROBOT made to look like a woman in 2003’s “Rise of the Machines”. Actually tried to claim that was how Arnold believed men should treat women.

  11. College football has become a ‘meat market’ to the highest NIL bidder
    as in, “What’s in it for me, Prez?”
    But the pros are the same although more restricted than collegiates
    and the college game popularity seemed to be as high as ever
    so maybe it doesn’t matter the kids are (finally) getting paid

Speaking of QBs, here’s an interesting stat: Caleb Williams had 99 carries this season and averaged 1.2 yards per attempt (that’s just under 30% of our total carries), to go along with his 388 passing attempts. This means that on more than 1 out of every 5 snaps, no matter what play was called, Caleb ends up running the ball for an average of 1.2 yards.  On the other hand, the rest of the team ran the ball on well shy of one-third of our total plays on offense, 244 carries, yet averaged 6.3 yards per attempt (!).  Bottom-line: over 2/3rds of our offense depended on one person (our QB) that opposing defenses must focus on. But when we ran the ball with any one of our backs, our average yards per carry was better than about 80% of all previous Heisman trophy winners at the running back position (!). So the question LR should ask (or be asked) is: should we give the ball to our previous Heisman trophy winning QB who opposing defenses have been game-planning for, or to our equivalent Heisman trophy winning running game, which opposing defenses aren’t planning for? The consistent offensive acumen applied here by LR is telling…
