Dante Moore Enters Transfer Portal

The transfer portal is crazy and UCLA freshman QB Dante Moore has entered it today.

“For these next upcoming years, I just want to go to a place where I can get developed,” Moore told 247Sports.

He threw nine interceptions this season so I’m not sure how much of that is Chip Kelly’s fault or who will entrusted to “develop” him at the next school. The bottom line is if things don’t go the way a player wants, it’s someone else’s fault.

  • Jen Cohen has come out of hiding to do an interview with the L.A. Times.

Frankly, her answers are so bland I’m not going to spend a lot of time on what she said. Here is what she said about the football season.

“First of all, really disappointing year. We had big goals, and we have high expectations for us here. And that’s why we’re here. (Lincoln Riley) loves the pressure of that and the expectation of that, and so do I.

“So disappointing and frustrating, not just for the coaches and the players, but obviously for our fans and for our former athletes. That’s not the standard, and that’s not where we’re going. As far as Lincoln goes, I have full confidence in him. He has my full support. It’s been incredible getting a chance to work more closely with him.”

      1. Sorry to lose him. He is really a good running back. Surprised that they never gave him a chance.

      1. I don’t think so. That USC defense couldn’t stop UCLA with Moore’s 5 year old brother at QB

  1. Yeah, I read that same article and what worried me is that ‘Ol Jen was deflective about how the NIL project at SC is coming along

And it isn’t surprising to see today’s kids (footballers especially) so impetuous and ready to jump ship at the sight of any slight or problem

    1. Coming out of high school Dante Moore looked great. I thought that yhe was the best high school QB in the country……much better than Arch Manning. I don’t know what happened at UCLA.

  2. Another Celeb thought is how SC’s sieve of an offensive line prepared him for a bottom-feeder team such as the Chicago Bears as he danced his way out of trouble over and over

    1. That’s “MOSTLY danced [or leapt out of] trouble”, my brother. Like all of the best and brightest dual threat QB’s, Caleb felt he could turn a bad play into a success if he had 1 more second to survey the field. That kind of confidence sometimes leads to strips and fumbles…or sacks. Russell Wilson has the same ‘problem’: he never gives up on a play —even when he should.

      1. Please help me. Is there something wrong with Lincoln Riley? He seems not to know how to adjust even when all seem to know they were out to stop Caleb and he does not look in to the camera and talks about x’s and o’s when questioned about how the game went. Am I mising something? Does he know what motivates his players. Does he need to spend some time with Lou Sabin to learn how to be a head coach. It appears that firing the DC is just the tip of the iceberg. He sems to be the main problem? What do others on this blog think? I played football and when my head coach talked before the game I wanted take off my uniform. But, we had another coach who was just the opposite, when he talked I was ready to die for the team. Your opinion?

      2. The DC was not the tip of the ice berg…..he was the iceberg. Get that straightened out and fix the O-Line problem and you have a championship team. The problem with Caleb is that he doesn’t like to take the short stuff. Penix and Nix will nickle and dime you to death and when everyone on their defense come closer to the line of scrimmage, then they go over the top. Caleb wants a 50 yarder on every play so he holds onto the ball and, if you watch him, he carries the ball like a loaf of bread. It’s amazing that he doesn’t fumble more.

  4. Tonight at 6:00 we get to hear Gavin tell us why we should allow him to do for the rest of the country, what he’s done for California! (That homeless cleanup job in the Bay area a couple of weeks ago was hilarious! Comparing it to tidying up your home when you have guests was slimy.)

“Outplacement and coaching firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas has released a report looking at layoffs across the nation, and when it comes to job cuts, no state comes close to California.

The report shows that California has recorded more than double the number of job cuts than New York, which is in second place. From January 1 to October 1, 171,530 Californians lost their job, almost 100,000 more than in New York, where 74,237 people were laid off.

At this point last year, 61,623 jobs had been cut in California. Aside from 2020, when the pandemic wreaked havoc, this year has seen the most since 2009. 35% of job cuts were attributed to economic or market conditions.”

I have NEVER mocked people who leave CA. Only laugh at the ones who are stupid enough to keep voting blue after they move, which is what helped drive them out in the first place!

  5. Words from a coach or administrator are usually rote, but she does exhibit a lot of energy and a desire to get things done which is a far cry from the days of ‘Bon-Bon, ‘Haten and ‘Swingin’ Swannie

  6. I had some familiarity with Dante Moore as a HS player– he was way overhyped. On the upside, he’s built like a 30 year old NFL QB and has a cannon for an arm. But he’s not very athletic, and he’s not well coached, didn’t come out of a place with the QB development and sophistication of say California HS football and the private QB coaching.

His release point if very low and he doesn’t know how to use footwork to find passing lanes so he gets a lot of balls batted down.

He locks on and stares down receivers and holds the ball too long resulting in picks and sacks.

He’s a big strong kid who could use his body to hit a crease and use his leg strength and get yards as a runner, but he doesn’t have the athleticism or quickness to hesitate before running, but he does hesitate before running and it allows him to be taken down more easily than you’d think. The same also applies to him rolling out.

I guess our only interest is that it reminds us how much of an advantage we have at SC that has its pick of the top QBs in California every year. Also shows how these kids’ hanger-ons want to see a kid both developed and to start right away, which is often a contradiction.

      1. Definitely could see his size and arm strength. Sadly that wasn’t properly developed- He was hyped and coddled but not coached, and his psyche is fragile because of it. His interviews showed there was a maturity problem that Chip should have picked up on. He wanted to go to what he thought was “Hollywood”.

It’s not his fault, the level of Detroit football isn’t great on the coaching, but there’s tons of talent. Kinda reflects the city, a half million people being served by the worst big city school district and the poorest big city in the nation.

His hs, MLK assembles incredible talent but not necessarily coaching- they regularly lose state titles to better coached teams from other less populated parts of the state.

He needs to be in a place where he’ll be brought along, and mentally matures. I’m hearing that Jonathan Smith may pull him to Michigan State, would be a blessing for the kid… but maybe not for us. I can’t believe where in the freakin rust belt Big 10.
