USC Morning Buzz: The New Dedeaux Field Will Take Twice As Long To Build

Baseball coach Andy Stankiewicz said in an interview USC would practice at El Camino College and play its home games at Loyola Marymount and the Great Park Baseball Complex in Irvine for the next two years. The “new” Dedeaux Field will open for the 2026 season.

Now this is not what Stankiewicz said when he was hired at USC. Here’s the excert from the Los Angeles Times.

“Stankiewicz was eager to set the record straight about the future of the Trojans stadium. While some had wondered if USC baseball would be displaced for several years by construction, Stankiewicz said he’s been assured the program will only be impacted from the fall of 2027 through the summer of 2028.

“That’s it. One year,” Stankiewicz said.

Uh huh. Famous last words.

I wonder how many USC players were shocked when they first got told the project would take twice as long. Or the players who now might never play another game at Dedeaux Field even though they were originally told they wouldn’t have to worry about a construction project until 2027. Now they will get two years of shuttling to Torrance every day to practice.

You can probably thank Lincoln Riley in some way because he needed his pet football project ASAP, which moved up construction. Anything for the 7-5 coach.

    1. Well, all the coaches except the football coach, who with his glittering 18-8 record ( 0-1 in bowl games ) gets what he wants, not bad for a guy who just set a school record for points allowed in a season !

How’s that DC search going Lincoln ? Can’t find anyone to work with you ?

      1. The sheer length of time this search is taking [during which all 4 and 5 star defensive players are looking elsewhere] is an indicator Lincoln lacks the sway to get who he wants & we’re gonna wind up with a compromise candidate [whom local press —with the exception of Scott—will dutifully over-hype]…..

      2. Starting to wonder if the local press will swoon over Riley’s pick unless it’s a homerun, he seems to have spent his capital with the local media ( and national ) with his aloofness, Heltonesque pressers as well as his inability to coach

      3. Fanboy Ryan Abraham won’t take Lincoln Riley’s cock out his mouth long enough to speak…leave him be

  1. Wow – that’s the reason I can’t get on with my life – so what? Straight down the 110 to RB Blvd. – turn west and 1.5 miles @ Crenshaw and RB Blvd. even streets aren’t too tough – Figueroa to 120th west to Western south to RB Blvd – El Camino CC.
As to Irvi ne – that is a long haul. Life is full of the unexpected – just ask Caleb Williams, Lincoln Riley, Alex Grinch and very soon but not a surprise Brandon Staley. Some earned some hurled at one.

    1. The point is, Riley gets what he wants, the other coaches are in the dark about what’s going on and then having to deal with the school catering to ONE coach and having to drive to Irvine for a BB game is moronic, but that’s USC these days, a fucking mess.

    2. Good directions but you’ll want to slide over and park on the Manhattan Beach Boulevard side of campus. That’s where the newly refurbished baseball diamond is.

      1. Not bad on “Hong Kong” either —[Always enjoyed Rod Taylor beating up the bad guys in the last 5 minutes of the show]……

      2. According to former Chief Gates’ right hand man, Rod beat up his good friend Jim Brown at a downtown bar…. over what Rod considered ungallant conduct toward a waitress. Rod was known to do stuff like that according to his longtime girlfriend, Maggie Smith. He coldcocked a guy who insulted Maggie.

  2. Can’t wait forever for Wolf so meanwhile I am up for Georgia-Alabama;
The Rising Dynasty Bulldogs going for 3 National Championships in a row (with only SC close) versus the still-going Crimson Tide Dynasty

  3. Also rumored is how the Pac-12 Conference has one last affair in her-
Figures Oregon takes this one and should be in the ‘Final-4’
(but only SC ‘knows’ for sure and they aren’t telling)

      1. It’s funny you mentioned that —I had a dream about Carol last night —–a lot of meaningless, impossible to decipher symbolism —Carol’s face was on a donut….Mine was on a carrot….and we were going for a walk in the park at night….

  4. The Trojans know something about dynasties having seen
SC create one from 1962-1979, an entire generation.
So we LAers have been spoiled
Oh yeah, and Pete’s ‘little’ one from 2002-2008

      1. I’ll watch it next time with Pete,
and “Carol as a donut and MG as a carrot”
is an image I don’t wish to carry with me today

  5. What is happening to improve the offensive line? I’m pretty sure they can hire a DC that will make a big difference, but what concerns me is that the offense sucked, even with Caleb. With a regular QB, this offense is dead in the water.

I really dont think Henson knows how to coach o-line. Not the least little bit. Players didnt get better under him.

Throw in that idiot KK, whispering in Riley’s ear and you have a formula for disaster.
