Oregon is the favorite for QB Dillon Gabriel according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.

You know who is the interim dean of the School of Architecture? Willow Bay. She is also the dean of the School of Communication and Journalism. She is definitely a favorite of Carol Folt.

I remember watching live broadcast (and have a good copy I’ve watched) – they seemed to be bored (and that team wasn’t the most well disciplined) … Musberger commented near end of the first half that Penn State better not quit or USC would put up 50-60 points and to the effect of “folks, we’ve seen this before…” Also observed that USC should have been in the national championship game (they should have – of course, hmm, an SEC team was picked above them…no way! … of course also to the contrary when you sleepwalk in Corvallis for the first half a bare two years after blowing a game there and nearly the year before as well … well, you get what you get)…

In fact, Penn State was driving for a score at the end which would have made it look like a close game …when it should have been a blowout.

For decades that was determined by primarily SAT/ACT scores but the USC admissions department has replaced that objective standard with essays and letters of recommendation, ect. in order to get in more “students of color.” DEI is the new admissions standard. It is not based on merit but rather skin color and other stupid criteria which will ultimately result in academically inferior students and graduates. This will affect the brand over time.

        Now do you want to discuss the descent of the USC athletic brand or will you acknowledge that one? Should we apply the DEI standard to athletic scholarships? “Well we already have plenty of fast, tall, strong black guys on the team so we offered a scholarship to short, pudgy Jew.”

  3. Why should Gabriel care what Oklahoma fans think. The coaching staff at OU pretty much ran him out of town in favor of there up and coming 5 star quarterback “Jackson Arnold” who will be starting in there bowl game.
    Riley has coached three Heisman Trophy winners and “Jalen Hurts” who is tearing up in the NFL. It makes sense for him to come to USC.
    Is Dan Lanning good at developing quarterbacks? And don’t tell me “Bo Nix”. Nix has been playing college football for 5 years! You better be good if you played college for 5 years. I guarantee you Caleb Williams will have more success in the NFL than Bo Nix.

    1. Caleb clearly has more athletic talent than Bo Nix. But Nix repeatedly showed that he can deliver the ball into a tight window to a receiver in 2.5 to 2.8 seconds. That is an essential skill in the NFL. Caleb will need to develop that skill because he did not show it during his time at USC. If he can not develop this skill, Caleb will be a bust.

    cant tell yet whether he is completely honest or not. seems like a straight-shooter, but his answers were pretty sparse.

    – he said that he has not met all the defensive staff yet. really? he went directly onto the road to recruit, which makes sense. he said that he hasnt evaulated the staff yet. it just seems like maybe this is going to be a full overhaul. seems like if he intended to keep coaching staff he would want to talk to them. he might be calling and recruiting a coaching staff right now.
    – said he had only watched 2 USC games and hadnt dug into the playbook so he couldnt really say much about how things would be different. once again, totally surprised me.

    it feels like he builds a defense based around the players, more than having a single defensive scheme or idea. this seems smart to me, particularly in college where turnover of players is so high. but it could also lead to very different results from year to year.

    he mentioned discussions with riley and jen cohen. i think jen might actually be giving riley some good advice. she sure got the kalen deboer hire right.

Was the performance of the players consistent? Did the players show discipline and good fundamentals? Fire all of them and start from scratch. And the first to go is Donte.       3. Just based on results, I feel like Odom is the first guy I would fire. He wasnt playing Eric Gentry or Raesjon Davis. Tackett wasnt close to being ready and got all the playing time early in the season. Mason Cobb reverted and got worse. Was there any development at all? There was no bright spot in his group. Gentry seemed pissed at the treatment, rightly so. I hope Gentry sticks around and gets used properly.

        I could argue that maybe the rush ends coach has developed players a bit???

        Lynn probably sees that he has some very talented young players that just need development. Alexander, Jackson, Curtis, Davis, Gentry, Lucas, Shelby, Zion Branch, Height, Fequon, Christian Pierce, Jamil Muhammed, Maliki Crawford all have lots of potential. I’m sure I have missed a couple and a few good recruits incoming.

      4. One thing that bothered me about last year is that Grench never really had a basic group of guys who were going to be his regulars. One game Eric Gentry would play 65-70 plays. The next game he would play 5 or 6 plays. He couldn’t seem to find a group of regulars.

Grench wanted a smaller quicker D-line and it’s the co-ordinators and the head coach who tell Wiley what they want. Today they want big D-Linemen and they are blaming Wiley because he didn’t produce big D-Linemen even though Grench didn’t want big D-Linemen.

      Focusing on size (presumably meaning ability to employ strength at the point of attack/decision in the interior lines) is refreshing, given the lack of physicality…and I’m not attacking the new DC (seems promising, but I’m skeptical of anyone hired by USC to include now in the LR era, so we’ll see)…

      But…I have never forgotten the below article, as it is still relevant in terms of illustrating the Rush “Tom Sawyer” principle so-to-speak: “He knows changes aren’t permanent…but change is…”

      Size comes and goes (although it appears clear that NGs and OT need a minimum amount of) in terms of importance … speed and quickness are always equalizers and can get the best of (and in the new era of mobile QBs being more than just the rage, but the standard, all the more so)…

      So lifting and adding size is a start … but they have to be athletic … and well-coached (individually and as to scheme).
