The USC Friday Column Supplement

Are you at all surprised that Louisville coach Jeff Brohm said today he doesn’t expect many of his players to opt of the Holiday Bowl.

“As of right now, no one has opted out of the game,” Brohm said.

It will be a motivated Louisville team in San Diego with QB Jack Plummer, who passed for more than 400 yards against the Trojans last season when he was at Cal. And a Louisville team that looks close to full strength.

  • USC wide receiver Brenden Rice officially declared for the NFL Draft today. I’m not sure why this is news. Rice had committed to play in the Senior Bowl. He was introduced during USC’s Senior Salute. But now it is . . . official.
  • Today’s video of the week featured the Pogues’ lead singer Shane MacGowan, who died last week. Here’s a wonderful performance and scenes from his funeral in Ireland on Friday.

      3. I think there will be alot of young players on the field and that will be good for motivation. offensive line will be purged of Tarquin and Kingston and will be Paige, Pregnon, Dedich (maybe), Noa and Monheim. so it will be better.

        hopefully they play the young receivers only and let Lemon, Duce, Jakobi, Branch, Kryon take over the game. Let the old guard move on to the NFL or other teams. I would take Taj returning anyday, but otherwise, time to move to the next generation of talent.

        It all comes down to the offensive line. If they are decent, Moss will play pretty well.

  20. Army-Navy game, a throwback contest to when college men went out for football for fun, players who would be mere ‘walk-ons’ at Alabama and such. But it does not detract from the ‘importance’ of the game to the Cadets and Midshipmen as these produce lifetime memories

    My wife dated a cadet who was a nominal player (she seems to like that type of guy) but when Army finally beat Navy that day she was overwhelmed with the throwing of both sides’ hats into the air and the heart-felt celebrating (relief?) after so many years of Navy losses
