Donte Williams announced on twitter that he is departing USC and reportedly for a move to Georgia.
This is significant because the defense needs a new secondary coach if USC is to have a serious chance of actually improving.
Williams was always more concerned with perception/image than actually developing cornerbacks.
Tell me who USC developed at corner under Williams? Mekhi Blackmon and Christian Roland-Wallace were the best corners the past 2 seasons and each spent their careers at other schools before spending one season with the Trojans.
The rest of the corners never got better or got worse. Whatever happened to Ceyair Wright? Is he still playing?
Some will defend Williams as a recruiter. But how much of an impact did he really make there?
He did get Mike Bohn and Brandon Sosna to appoint him interim coach after Clay Helton and the team promptly imploded. It’s not easy being an interim coach but Ed Orgeron made it work when he took the role.
Now to see who D’Anton Lynn hires to replace Williams.

The point being, position coaches matter to a certain point. You can have the best coaches but a poor scheme affects everyone and the previous staff couldn’t get the best out of the players.
They have to do better, or get replaced. No more benefit of the doubt.
Look at Michigan and Ohio St.
