Former UCLA safety Kamari Ramsey has committed to USC. This was expected ever since USC hired D’Anton Lynn.
I have to do some research before I make any judgements on Ramsey, whom 247 lists as the No. 1 safety in the transfer portal.
If you want to tell me, he is better than anyone USC has, than I’m inclined to believe it. But . . . he wasn’t All-Pac-12 first-or-second team. He didn’t even make honorable mention, which means the UCLA coaches didn’t push too hard to get him on the team.
Consider that USC’s Calen Bullock, who had “issues” during the season, especially with tackling, was first team.
The truth is he should improve the defense. I wrote that a lot last year too when guys transferred. At least they have better coaches this time around.
Ramsey was a highly rated safety coming out of high school—I think he was only a redshirt freshman this year so he has more potential than accomplishments at this point —but watch out for him in’24…..

MG, why isn’t Lincoln Riley getting Transfer Portal commitments from players from top ten programs like Georgia, Alabama , Ohio State and Michigan instead of second rate programs like Arizona, UCLA, Kansas State and Mississippi State?

Good question. At least we PROBABLY got ourselves a serviceable couple of defensive backs….and maybe a QB.

Grabbbyy,
Reminder, there are some great players on the second rate teams. The question is, is Riley getting the best or is he settling for anyone that wants to play at SC.

I beginning to think that USC should start spending big money on great coaches who can develope players and probably less money on the players. I don’t want to be dogmatic about that because I’m not sure which way this NIL thing is going to go. But if NIL continues to go in the direction it is going then great recruiters like Donte Williams are going to be de-emphasized. Kids are no longer going to want to go to schools with coaches who build relationships with them. They’re going to want to go to schools that build their bank account. So why do you need great recruiters? Instead, get coaches who can coach and develope players, which is what they are getting paid to do.

I’m worried because the players we got from Arizona didn’t turn out to be great and the OL from Florida was a bust.

Actually, there is one other direction to go for LR…….OUT if he doesn’t get his act together. But I hope he does get it together. I still think that he is an outstanding coach who made a bad decision.
