The USC Friday Column Supplement

I’m seeing a lot of fans who complain about their college losing recruits because of money now celebrating when it’s the Dodgers spending amazing sums for free agents.

  • USC safety Max Williams said he won’t be returning for his final year of eligibility and he’s ready to move onto the NFL. He will play in the Holiday Bowl.
  • I haven’t heard much on the Chargers job so here is BetOnline’s list. Naturally, Lincoln Riley made it. They might as well hire Phillip Rivers.

  1. Should we be worried that we have non graduating players going to the Holiday Bowl who don’t want to return to USC to play football? How hard can we expect them to play if Louisville gets a 2 TD lead in the first half? Or if we get in a shootout that comes down to the last play? Did anyone hear Bryson Shaw saying “we are competitive people —we will try to win”? I never assumed otherwise ….until I heard that comment. Never like it when players feel they have to say “this game matters to us personally.”

Now that is an impressive group. Can you imagine these classmates talking about their future. The Velvet Fog says “I am going to be a world renown jazz singer.” Hoffman says “I will be a famous actor and win an Oscar.” Bradbury says “I will write one of the best selling science fiction books of all time.” And Earl Scheib says “I will paint any car for $29.99.”

        Las Vegas doesn’t think Riley can COACH a team to a win w/o superstar QB. December 27th will tell us a lot.

The reason we got our asses kicked in BOTH of our rivalry games [to mediocre teams] is Riley didn’t get our players jacked up — we played very okay games in our losses to Utah, Washington & Oregon — but we couldn’t stay in games with our 2 biggest rivals. What does that tell you about Riley’s abilities as a motivator?

      1. Everyone plays their best game of the year against USC – because our defense stunk so bad and the offense was kind of lame too.

        I’m really looking forward to seeing Miller time. It might be a pleasant surprise. Moss has been absorbing all the knowledge and I think he will be pretty sharp. I think he will have a better connection to his young, talented receiver group. I hope they can get Dorian going in this game, and I want to see Kyron WH step up.
