In Memoriam: Troy Richardson

In our continuing look at Trojans who passed away in 2023, Troy Richardson was the punter on the 1985 Rose Bowl championship team and was the Trojans’ starting punter in 1983 and 1984.

He was also a member of the Huntington Beach Edison High School football team that won back-to-back CIF championships in 1979-80. After high school, he attended Golden West College.

Richardson’s wish was to be cremated with his ashes dispersed on the 50-yard line of the Rose Bowl.

  1. I saw him play at Edison, my high school came within a last second field goal that hit the crossbar and bounced back from beating them. Those Edison teams slaughtered everyone.

  2. RIP Troy always honor a passed on Trojan.
So the expanded playoff will keep more teams interested longer, not sure it will be enough. For every 2023 USC we’re-gonna -kill-every-down-cuz-we’re-mad-as-hell team looking for redemption, there’s too many don’t give a fuck teams in too many bowls. Today’s games sucked asshole.
Want players to give a shit thru bowl season? Force a registration of every NIL cent made to into a fund that is prorated over 4 years which 1/4 can be withdrawn per year and requires bowl game participation to have a year completed. You own the doctors so it’s kinda hard to fudge that detail. Early declaration is forfeiture of remaining funds, which go to charitable scholarships entities.
