USC Notes: Conflicting Views On Miller Moss

I’ve said Miller Moss deserves to start next season.

But here’s a couple other views:

  • A USC booster told me the Holiday Bowl was the worst thing that could happen to the program because he didn’t think Moss would be as good over an entire season or against LSU in the opener. “We’ll be stuck now if we can’t get a good quarterback in the portal.”
  • A Pac-12 coach told me Moss should consider entering the transfer portal. “He would have a laundry list of schools to choose from. I’d make (Lincoln) Riley tell me I’m the starter and if he didn’t, go to the portal. I know a lot of schools would love to have him.”
  • I believe USC does need a quarterback. It needs a QB who can reliably backup Miller Moss next season.
  • Why didn’t we see more of tight end Carson Tabaracci during the season? His 32-yard reception in the Holiday Bowl looked like he could add something to the offense.
  • Why didn’t freshman tailback A’Marion Peterson play in the Holiday Bowl? All we heard during bowl practices was how the Trojans had only three scholarship tailbacks.
  • Defensive lineman Jack Sullivan, the transfer from Purdue, had three tackles in the Holiday Bowl. That was almost as many as he had in his 11 other games (five). Kyon Barrs had five tackles vs. Louisville after getting 13 tackles in the previous 12 games.
  • Offensive guard Alani Noa, who started the season-opener against San Jose State, did not play in the Holiday Bowl.

      2. I will take note of your opinion.

Just curious, where did the username “plow horse” come from?

      4. Mr. “let;s meet up” after repeatedly insulting my wife and mother says “Tell the family Gabby said hello!” And then says “give it a rest.”

No Gabby I will not give it a rest until I get piece of you.

    1. i heard a podcast that talked about how Caleb and some other seniors were toxic to the locker room. I think that is true at some level. It would not make sense to start anyone expect Miller, but bring in another QB and have them compete.

Miller isnt leaving, that is the dumbest comment ever.

  1. Recall how SC sent Jaxson Dart packing with the arrival of Celeb
and now Dart is in the running for the 2024 Heisman trophy.
Maybe SC should take its time in developing the players it has
instead of seeing if the “grass is greener on the other side of the hill”

      1. I would say the degree of Gabby’s mental illness is excessive. After all, he posted over 50 video clips of large animals taking a dump. That is not normal.

      2. Looks like shitting in the blog was effective, you’re still talking about it. Thanks for confirming its impact.

      3. Maybe that’s the reason why they transferred……because they were not good enough to play at SC. But let’s not forget that SC has had some good QB’s…..3 Heisman Trophy winners in the last 20 years.

  2. My God Scott how negative can you possibly get. We won and our loyal quarterback played incredibly well. If you give up the sports writing gig, I may be able to find you a job looking for flea shit in the pepper.

      1. Got that line from a construction expert that I retained LJ. Rather than examine all the work my plumber did to determine whether it met the standard, he used some of his time to examine part of the work of the replacement plumber that the Plaintiff/Hotel Owner found acceptable. When asked under oath at a deposition why he did this, my expert stated that the quality of work by the replacement contractor was inferior to the original contractor and that the standard applied by the owner to the original plumber was – “whether we can find flea shit in the pepper.”

  3. Scott, after a disappointing regular season the team and fans needed the year to end on a feel-good moment. I know that’s in contrast to your agenda.

Regarding Noa, use your “Inside USC” pull to answer the question

  4. Superior qbs of course are important, but we aren’t going anywhere until we get our act together on defense and the trenches. Let’s hope LR has finally grown up and gets rid of this finesse BS.

  5. With 5 minutes to go and down 60 points it doesn’t look good for Florida State….

  6. I watched several of Moss’ games in High School due to knowing one of his Offensive Lineman and family. Heard good things from them then, he is a class kid. Been impressed with both his skill and temperament for years. Regarding LSU, if a seasoned within the system QB who is highly intelligent and is accurate with the football can’t handle that game it is probably because the Offensive Line is giving him no chance. I’m guessing that Booster may have been the same one you called Haden and told him to Tarmac Kiffin too. A lot of Dumb Money in this world and most of it seems to circle USC.

  7. Moss should be the qb hands down I believe that when you have too many prima donnas it wrecks your culture among the players who don’t give a dam about self I rather have Moss over any TP QB period we want to build a culture with players like Moss n others Let’s go get some lineman that are not Polynesian not a racist but it’s not working or coach them up to a level with who should be like.

  8. Moss is the Qb damnit find a 2 their TP QB who is not a 6 year player find a RSF QB who is waiting in the wings to be 2 year QB who is really wanting to be a trojan.

  9. Trojans were an 8 pt. favorite. Enfield can not coach on game day. Ellis, Collier,
and James, Jr. play for themselves. Team has no plays and defense stinks. Fire
Enfield and eyes out for a new head coach. SDST beats Gonzaga by 10 on the
road. Trojans lose to them bad on neutral court.

  10. Moss will be fine. Stetson Bennett wasn’t a superstar and he won back-to-back championships. Stop looking for the messiah in the portal and get to bloody work. That’s been the Trojans issue, too many hero players and not enough grinders. Jesus H. Christ.

  11. OT – I know many were angered by the NFL official ramming his ‘knowledge’ into that ‘penalty’ last night on the 1st 2 point conversion attempt by Campbell denying them the lead but to then have two additional shots at the PAT(s) and on the last one ‘STILL’ act like ‘I’m the smartest guy in the room’ and again go for 2 points rather than a 1 point for ‘OT’, and fail is one colossal blunder by DET Lions coach Campbell.

Moss is our QB – imagine if he had failed what the outcry would be?

  12. — Will Alabama mystique be too much for Michigan,
and can Washington’s passing beat Texas?

If you can beat Saban’s Crimson Tide I have to see it to believe it
And the Longhorns may have the running attack to hold Huskies at bay

  13. The thing is with the Huskies is that SC almost beat them

And Alabama’s “mystique” was helped along by that amazing
    last-play Auburn dagger

  14. But the ‘Tide’ will ride-and-dismount with the ways of its quarterback
who is first-year and still trying to figure it out while being ‘clutch’

  16. More players playing this weekend will enter the transfer portal before the Jan 2 deadline. USC must be near the scholarship limit.

    1. The problems with the defense this year were LR’s fault. He chose to go with Grench when everyone (but him) could see that Grenchs defense didn’t work. But much of the problems with the offense was Calebs fault. If you watch Oklahoma’s offense when LR was running it, it had a certain rythm to it.They come up to the LOS, hiked the ball with plenty of time on the play clock and ran the play. Then they lined up again and ran the again…..bang, bang, bang. There was a rythm to it. In this last year(after Caleb had won the Heisman) they would come up to the LOS and Caleb would waste the whole time clock changing the play(sometimes they even had to waste a time out) then they would hike the ball and Caleb drop back a few more steps looking for a receiver to open up 60 yards down field. If I’m a safety on the other team, why would I want to come up closer to the LOS when I knew that their QB was going to by-pass all of the short and intermediate stuff. LR should have told him to stop holding up the rythm of the offense….”just run the play that I called”.

      1. Maybe Caleb W got the green light to audible on the pre-snap reads. Whatever, the outcome offensively was still one of the best in the nation yardage-wise. Defense was just turrible and you saw better tackling in the Holiday Bowl.

  17. Scooter,

What does the booster know about football? Moss needs to sit down iwth Riley and just let him know that he has earned the right to be the starter. Which he does. All positions are open except qb
