Lincoln Riley couldn’t get USC to the College Football Playoff, so the playoff is coming to USC.
Michigan is holding its official Rose Bowl rally today at 2 p.m. at the Galen Center.
The pep rally will feature performances by the Michigan Marching Band, Michigan Cheer Team and Michigan Dance Team. There will also be appearances by David Alan Grier and other Michigan alums.
Tickets for the general public are $20 and being sold . . . on USC’s website.

- Defensive tackle Kyon Barrs declared for the NFL Draft on Saturday night.
kyon Barrs = undrafted free agent!
Good luck Kyon!

It is a dream for most of these footballers to make it to the NFL any way possible, even as a mere ‘catch-on’ player who might still get a nice one-time contract

I listened to a podcast recently that said that Caleb was a toxic presence in the locker room and unwilling to run Riley’s offense and that he was responsible, along with some other bad apples, for the team playing poorly. According to this podcast, they noticed that after the Holiday Bowl, Riley and Caleb walked past each other without a word.
I think this is absolutely true. I really doubt Caleb will be the #1 pick in the NFL draft. QB is more than just a player, he has to be a reliable leader.
We often saw Caleb scrambling around trying to make a play and attributed this to his competitive streak, but I wonder if this is because he was not willing to make the play as it was designed, couldnt get rid of the ball on time, wasnt really good at going through his progressions, wasnt a team player, etc.
I am starting to belief that #13 was one of two core problems – the other being Grinch, with this team.
Happy New Year and Fight On in 2024!

I respectfully disagree. Caleb is a generational talent. There is numerous examples over the last two decades how a drafted QB has gone on to change the win/loss record for a franchise and make them consistent playoff contenders
It all comes down to what an organization is willing to leverage to get a guy many experts claim to arguably the best at his position over the last decade.
Bryce Young was the first player taken in the last draft. With that said, in my opinion, Caleb looks like the better player coming out of college. Perhaps I might be a little bias, but many would agree with me

Mike Tyson was a generational talent too, Gabby. But he got too big for his britches, partied big time, hung out with Hollywood trash, started firing trainers, not listening to the new guys he brought in to replace the old guys —and began losing all his big fights. I couldn’t believe Caleb’s “aren’t-I-smart?”, eye rolling, dismissive post practice interviews. I noticed the way Rice would throw up his hands in frustration after Caleb got sacked on plays where Rice was open early in the play. And I saw the chicken-shit look on Lincoln’s face when he’d come over to talk to Caleb about a bad decision Caleb made. Everybody on the team was either eggshell walking or annoyed with the personality of the QB….and no team can win games with that crap going on.
Whichever NFL team gets Caleb is going to develop locker room problems.

Good analogy, MG, here’s where I disagree. Tyson was his own “brand” and no one of authority could reel him in, compared to Caleb being a future employee of a multi-billion-dollar business. The NFL will humble a college super hero real quick if he’s not meeting expectations.
Respect in the NFL is earned not given and Caleb will have a lot to prove to gain the respect he might feel entilted to, or he’s a bust and soon forgotten.
My crystal ball is hazy!

Really hate double negatives. I assume this means you can take a pass on Caleb. I agree. I once had a professor who would sprinkle double negatives throughout his exams. I would point out the double negative, re-write the question and then answer it. He was not amused.

I had to re-read that Cowher line but if you put it into a positive frame
it would read, Celeb “is not a guy you can afford to pass on,” which seems to be what he meant not what he said

This narrative about Caleb is facsnating really. Where was this last year? Funny how losing brings about negative comments. LR do these players really believe in your coaching philosophy? You have to also look at LR for his behavior also he is major control freak. So it doesn’t shock me that Caleb did what he did LR allowed him to be above everyone else. Just shows how NIL $$$ gives certain players a right of entitlement.

Totally on the money, 7112. Things don’t turn out well when a player becomes a [way] bigger star than the coach. And that’s gonna be happening with more and more frequency now that NIL has not only arrived but is threatening to take over the fabric of the sport.

With the change in portal rules and NIL, college football has evolved into a free-agency marketplace with the highest bidder benefiting.
These players look more like employees than student-athletes.
Will collective bargaining follow?
Where is congress?

MG until LR creates team first over individual play this type of behavior will continue with these prima Donna players liked your comment this site is not letting me like comments

Coaches like Riley are just now learning what coaching in the NIL environment means and its consequences. With NIL you have two teams on your “team” – a clique of primadonnas being paid 6 to 7 figures to play on a semi-pro basis and a much less paid group of local homeboys who may or may not want to block and tackle for the primadonnas. Same toxicity exists in recruiting a mercenary army.

Agree waynelusvardi so they just didn’t block for Caleb.Right? I blame LR for letting these players tear down team unity? This is a wake up call LR listen to your players don’t go get a TRANSFER QB go get a HS version of Brock Purdy

Real simple! Winning cures everything and when the wheels started to fall off the finger-pointing started. Calel’s bad habits were now under the microscope.
Caleb knew USC was only a stepping stone to the pot of Gold and milked the program to his benefit and perhaps packed it in when the milk went dry.

Let’s not tar-and-feather the guy on his way out
He helped put SC football back on the map in 2022
And he was a unique personality although not to everyone’s taste

Bottom line: He’s a great athlete that some franchise is going to have to rein in ….

Your comment reaffirms Riley’s stubbornness in making personnel changes only when his back was against the wall. Let’s hope this was a learning situation that benefits the program going forward. Based off of the bowl victory it’s proving beneficial.

I like Penix getting the ball out quick and neutralizing the Tixs pass rush……plus, they have a very capable RB…..just my opinion.
I think the Natty is Bama’s to lose!. Nick has that team dialed in!

Still a bit of a Rams fan after all these years, but they moved to 9-7 and a chance at a playoff berth with a missed Giants’ field goal at the end
