USC Adds Wide Receiver

USC needs wide receivers and added one today when Jaden Richardson (6-2, 210) of Division III Tufts University committed to the Trojans.

He had 92 catches for 1,564 yards and 20 TDs in his career. Washington, Wisconsin, Cal, Central Florida, South Florida also offered Richardson.

  1. I note Sark is catching some flak from Texas fans for how he chose to run the last 4 plays while camped inside Wasington’s 15 yard line with the game on the line. Why not have his quarterback either throw in the end zone for the winner or throw it out of bounds on all 4 attempts instead of wasting the first down on a short pass

    1. One of the yiu tube recordings of theclast qtr noted WA had a bad pass defense so if true that does call into question Sarkisian going with all those run plays – he calls ALL the plays.

      4. Up to that point, Texas hadn’t won a National Championship in 35 years – and they haven’t won one since. Fourth and 2 is all they’ve got. #Meh.

      5. At the time it seemed like a momentary blip with Pete in charge, I thought we would win many more but something went wrong every season after that- UCLA in 2006, Stanford in 2007, Oregon State in 2008 and then Pete was out the door after 2009.

  2. And maybe a lesson was learned to take a knee with the clock running down instead of risking an injury resulting in the clock stopping
    which amazingly gave Texas a chance to steal that game

    2. Hard to say how good this guy is but there were some good schools going after him so that’s a good sign. He looks like he is 6’2″ +. I saw him standing next to some others. He’s got good size. I watched his films. This kid can block. He’s the kind of guy you want out there on those bubble screens.

  5. I watched his 4 minute highlight tape so I’m now an expert on J-Rich. He all but certainly won’t be an above average starter, but this guy is definitely useful at a high major program. It’s fitting he comes from a school called Tufts when you watch him block on the perimeter. He mauls little D3 corners. Like a tiger on a runtling gazelle. He won’t push a Big Ten corner 30 yards down the field, but he’ll produce a number of highlight reel blocks this season. The level of effort he gives at his size is contagious. One good receiver block turns an 8 yard run into 30. Two good ones and it’s a touchdown. That alone makes him a guy we want in the program. He’ll most likely be a part time player who rag dolls corners in the run game and sprinkles in a few catches here and there. He doesn’t seem to possess the refined route running or technique needed to be a high contributor at the D1 level as his success is mostly predicated on being so much more physically gifted than his opponents. He’s very big and strong for a receiver, but corners at this level will match his speed and some his length. Fortunately SC doesn’t lack for talent at the receiver position, but it does need a hard nosed, experienced player who sets a tone every day in practice and in games.

    1. I’m not sure that you can tell much from those highlights. Most of the guys he’s playing against in those highlights are small, slow, academic nerds.

    Now Washington Huskies take its passing game at the
    favored Michigan defense
    -Hard to bet against Wash’s attack, they can score fast
    whereas Wolverines seem more like your typical “Big-10” plodders

Attention all: Will Howard may be headed to Ohio State after Coach Riley delayed in approving the contract submitted by his agent requiring (1) ability to scuttle called plays on whim of QB, (2) guaranteed uninterrupted pouting on sidelines when the team is playing “beneath QB’s standards” and (3) first row seat for mother in event of necessity for tearful reunion.

College recruiters are always ready to help a young kid grow up but pro coaches look at it like “I’m not a DI in the marine corp nor am I here to teach technique…..they should have learned all of that by now”. I do think that’s going to be a factor to these NFL people…..How much money are they investing in these kids?

  8. MG, you got me good with the line of the right “to scuttle called plays on whim of quarterback,” but 2&3 are debatable-
    I see other active players sitting on the bench between plays relaxing; the crying scene is unforgettable in sports lore and is defensible depending on one’s particular point-of-view (as is true with all matters)

You know what a conspiracy theorist I am, John, so take this with your usual grain of salt — — I thought it was weird when (1) Caleb got blasted on social media for smilingly rolling his eyes at the end of the Utah game [as our “defense” gave Utah the win following his individual heroics] and, then, (2) as if told by his agent ‘that’s not a good look — ya need to act devastated’, runs to conveniently situated mom in stands and cries in subsequent loss. It seemed to be one of those messaging moments —“see, everybody, I live or die with the team.”
      Call me a cynic —I guess I just too vividly remember Bill Clinton tearfully confessing “I’ve sinned!” to a group of pastors after the “I didn’t have sex with that woman” strategy went down the toilet.
