  1. Penix is a bit wild tonight. Nothing like the pinpoint accuracy he had against Texas.
Hoping they pull this out against Harbaugh before he’s handed his show-cause penalty.

    1. I was for Michigan. I don’t want Washington to win a NC. Washington is too close to SC. If they win a NC, all the good recruits on the west coast will want to go to Washington. We already have a problem with Oregon and all of their money trees.

      1. I think that Al center was a real ‘find’ … that was something that made a big difference – interesting seeing the opponent’s kickers blow games in the NFL against the Rams the past two weekends (NYG & SFO).

When two teams are as evenly matched as AL & MI were the little things make the difference – Saban should have addressed that as he made note that center had problems throughout the year.

      2. Eventually we are going to have these little AI units like a cell phone and they will be calling the plays. It’s sad when humans are now asking machines to do their thinking for them.

      3. Agree, Alv. Not being able to get the ball from the center to the QB is something of a problem, yes?

    Unbelievable but true.

    You heard it first.

    1. This seems incredibly wishful. That being said, I wouldn’t necessarily discount it because I think it would be a good move for him. Success in the NFL as a QB increases significantly with more experience/games played. While he does have two-plus years as a starter, getting another year under his belt would certainly help him to be more successful as–what is assumed to be–a starter on a crappy team. (Of course he needs to weigh that against the risk of injury.) Certainly he’s still projected to be a first round pick–and maybe even the first pick–but he might not even be the first QB taken. Let’s face it–this year tamped down much of the exuberance on his evaluation as a generational player. I don’t agree with that 100%. His stats were on par with his Heisman year. The only issue is that, knowing his defense was atrocious, he seemed determined to try to win all the games in the second half of the season by himself. The result of that is poor decision making. So it would be beneficial for him to come back for another year at USC to work specifically on his decision making, while knowing that the defense should be an upgrade. As to the financial aspect of all this, he’ll certainly make more money by going to the NFL. But what about the long-term? Investing in another year of game experience could be the determining factor in his financial future. Imagine making $6M/year for 4-5 years (not including signing bonus) for, let’s say, Carolina and ending up in a situation like Sam Darnold. Or being able to rise above lousy coaching due to your skills AND the extra experience, and instead end up signing a long-term deal for $50M/year in years 5 and beyond. And remember that with NIL, gone are the days of star players who jump to the NFL early for the chance to earn millions.

He’s got options. This is a business decision. But in his heart, he may just decide to come back because he missed out on a chance for any type of championship. (But I doubt that would be the determining factor!)

      1. His Dad told us this season may not be the last one Caleb plays at the colligate level. The guy is making over 5 million a year with NIL and endorsements, so it is not a money issue. Perhaps he wants to come back for another season to address his deficiencies, improve on them, and enter 2025 as a more polished version of Caleb.

      2. For me, the positive plays far outweigh the negative plays and the perceived ego. Call me “on the fence”! Whatever direction he decides to go in, I wish him success

      3. I don’t think that the offense will work that well under CW because the players don’t want him back….they want Miller. Even if the offense doesn’t work well, I don’t think LR will have the guts to replace him. In the meantime, Miller(someone that is a real potential to win the Heisman) will probably leave. Unless CW changes his ways, this will not be good for SC.

Miller for Heisman? This is literally based on one game. I’ll take the actual Heisman winner, please.

      5. Good Point. Call it a gut feeling but with 2 more years under LR, I definitely feel that there is a high chance that he will, at least, be in NY for the ceremony. Can I prove it?….NO. But I really think this kid is good. If he had played as the starter in 2023, we wold have had a much better season. Would we have won the NC. NO, not with that defense.

  3. If Riley doesn’t figure it out soon, USC will get crushed without a legitimate defense and running game next year.

  4. Physical football wins out again and that’s something we will never see under Lincoln Riley. It’s been two years in a row that the team that dominates upfront wins the national championship.

  5. I had not watched Michigan play much. Wow. That pre-snap motion and stacking the line and just running guys over. Incredible defense too.

USC is developing a good line with more depth each year. The new guys coming in are being developed and are bigger, etc. But it might take some time to get to that level of physicality.

I just have to imagine that they spend most of their practice on blocking for the offense and shedding blocks and gap soundness on defense.

Good thing Michigan is losing a bunch of guys, but I really dont see how we can match up to a team with a 340 lbs DL guy who moves that well.

Caleb coming back??? Really??? I heard a rumor that something was coming out on Caleb, but didnt think this was possible. Not sure I really even like that. Is he going to change his discipline and ability to go through progressions? if you could combine Caleb’s scramble and arm strength/accuracy with Moss’s brain, you would have a great QB, but I think he is not good for this program, unless he completely changes. I really want Moss at this point.

  6. Can anyone answer a question for me. When Michigan puts eight guys on the line, are those 3 extra guys tight ends or linemen? Would it make sense to use guys in the 280 to 300 lbs range that can move, but train them to also pass catch, so they are dual-threat?

Watching Pac-12 games you dont really see that brutal seige warfare mentality. I should probably watch an Iowa game.
