And now for some history: As the Pac-12 officially played its final game last night, here is a stat for USC fans.
Whether you go by the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC), American Assn. of Western Universities (AAWU), Pac-8, Pac-10 or Pac-12, there is only one school that won a unanimous college football championship. The University of Southern California, which has done it at least seven times.
For all the talk about how great the 1991 Washington Huskies football team was, it split the national title with Miami. When UCLA won in 1954, it shared the title with Ohio State. Colorado shared the title with Georgia Tech in 1990.
So last night was a chance for Washington to make history for the Pac-12.
Now, as USC moves to the Big Ten, ask yourself if you can imagine Sir Lincoln of Riley making the College Football Playoff championship game. It’s going to be easier to make the playoff next year. It’s also going to be harder to win the title with more games.

Coaches with a football philosophy like Lincoln Riley never have, and never will win a national championship. They’ll win just enough games to keep the Fanboys hopeful. So far Riley has not taken advantage of the opportunity and brand of USC football, he’s recruiting and running the program as if he’s at Washington State or Texas Tech, two lower level schools.

SC is recruiting 5* players at home and abroad and drawing a blank because of its Football-Lite brand. Recruits have brand awareness.

That and they don’t do NIL very well

Football lite. What does that mean? Kind of like “Bud Lite”? The real reason is the lack of $$$$$$.

Weird how they used to do it right pre-NIL.

FYI……USC finished ranked 30th in the final AP poll. Louisville finished 19th. The way too early ESPN poll doesn’t have them ranked for the 2024 season.

Washington had enough to win that game except its big Husky running back Johnson got hurt against Texas and his leg was wrapped like a mummy causing him to lose his speed and hence open up a Michigan avenue to harass quarterback Penix into an off-night, and take away Penix’s 2-picks for 10 points and the Wash defense was stout enough

…which is why it was SO smart to lose [an already injured] Johnson by running him on the last play of the game against Texas….

Why these million dollar coaches don’t seem to know how to take a knee is truly a mystery.

If you noticed there was a 4 man rush that WA could not handle and Penix crumbled under the pressure. Not a great nfl attribute. Not once did he roll out.

Scooter,
As you know, SC used to beat Michigan and Ohio St most of the time due to speed, physicality, and better athelets. Speed is there, athletes are there, but physicality is not. SC won’t go anywhere. They are playing like a Wash. St team instead of an SC team of old

Agreed, Pasadena……except ANY Mike Leach team [outta Washington State or anywhere else] could have beaten Riley’s 2023 Trojans….

You can have 5 all stars on your O-Line and still not have a good O-Line. They have to play together. I would say the same about QB. He could be a generational talent(as CW is) but if he is not following the game plan but doing his own thing, you won’t have a great team. CW follows his own game plan

I always get a kick out of what is referred to as
“Sports win-lose illusion,” for example, if Penix does not overthrow his wide open All-American end in the second quarter where that game would have gone

It was good for me to watch a Michigan game and see the physicality they had. Despite that, Washington hung in there with them for most of the game.
In the movie On Any Sunday there is a great scene where Pacino gives a speech before the game – …On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch…
That is the mentality they need to have to play a team like Michigan. I am hoping the new defensive staff brings that with them. The Holiday Bowl was a good starting point.

Regarding an earlier post about Caleb returning and someone in Heritage Hall leaking the story: Usually by now the email kicking off the Season Ticket Renewal would have been sent. May be possible it will happen once the NFL Declaration Date passes next Monday and they can package it with the announcement of his return (and adjust pricing lol)

Perhaps another made note ‘but’ if not – the 2004 USC football team’s national championship title also has a unique ‘bough’ on it – the SEC rigged BCS crowned LSU over OK but the Associated Press voted USC # 1.
That was the last AP title that wasn’t tied to the BCS/SCE/CFB and that, along with USC’s as the sole Div I team to refuse to play a Div. II – III school makes USC unique. It also is an impending death knell for Riley if he fails to rise to our expectations.
