Pete Carroll Out In Seattle

It’s the end of an era in Seattle as Pete Carroll is out as the Seahawks coach. He has been offered a job as an advisor with the team.

Carroll’s reign will be remembered for two things: Winning in Super Bowl in 2014 and losing a Super Bowl when he refused to run the ball with Marshawn Lynch on the 1-yard line and Russell Wilson’s pass was intercepted.

Carroll was in Seattle for 14 years, longer than at USC, and had a record of 137-89.

Does Carroll, 72, have one more job in him?

  1. Pete was forever young internally but externally he was looking pretty old as any 72 year old would, and one wonders if he was having some problems in relating to the 20ish guys coming out of college

  2. The only time I “met” Carrot was in SC’s quest for 3 titles in a row in 2005 at Oregon as I met the team exiting their buses to have its walk through at Oregon’s stadium as I implored them, “Get by Oregon and you will probably win 3 titles in a row; they’ll be talking about this team 100 years from now.”
At that point Carrot walked right by me and I said enthusiastically, “Welcome to Oregon,” to which he ignored me, and I then yelled out after him, “You better beat Oregon!”

  3. He was the oldest coach in the NFL at 72. He will still be a Special Advisor to the team. He’s just as enthusiastic as ever and he makes things fun. Every year there’s always openings in the NFL for coaches. I think the Seahawks will be fine with a new Head Coach. The real team to watch for coaching changes is the Chicago Bears. They are keeping their Head Coach but just about everyone else on offense is going. They have the first pick, from the Panthers. Are they going to stay with Fields or are they going to go for Caleb Williams? I know what I would do… What would you do?

  4. Scooter,

Carroll can’t sit in a box and be an advisor. He will die. Carroll is meant to be on the field. Thoughts on this are: he becomes the Raider’s or Charger’s coach. Or he becomes the advisor over Riley. Then Riley moves on to the Raider’s or Chargers. But does he want to return to SC and coach? Or is he too old? Time will tell.

  5. don’t see Carroll coming back to USC even as a fundraiser which some on twitter are championing. I could see him coming to the Chargers as HC. He can still coach at the NFL level and it would be a great PR move by the Chargers.

    1. I think Pete shot his last load and rides off into Sunset……Just like what Trump should have done when he got slapped around at the ballot box. Now he’s possibly looking at many years behind bars

  6. Old St. Nick gone Carroll gone Wow. CFP expansion NIL and TFP is the reason for his retirement. Let’s look at this retirement in the big picture lens. 1. TFP needs to be rexamined like change they can only transfer 1 time within a 2 year period, 2. NIL deals need to be capped like NBA, MLB luxury cap instituted where if they go over cap penalty money is split between lower tier teams so they can compete with the universities who are Big $$$$ NIL. A competitive balance needs to be introduced back to college football n basketball. Just because you have all the money in the world it doesn’t gaurantee a Championship. Ditto Dodgers, Lakers, Yankees my argument stands pat. Congress will never pass a bill regarding NIL cap so we must root for our teams regardless if they have NIL money or not . Reaction is needed by the power brokers for Semi pro college players. Not amateur athletics anymore.
