Will Coaching Dominoes Fall To Kliff Kingsbury?

USC analyst Kliff Kingsbury is getting mentioned for the Washington job but a more likely spot for him might be Arizona, if Jedd the Fisch is able to maneuver his way into the Huskies’ coaching position (and don’t think he isn’t trying).

If I’m Washington, I take a long, hard look at Kansas State’s Chris Klieman. He’s used to getting more with less and has two wins over Lincoln Riley, back when that was considered an accomplishment.

I might give Chris Petersen a call too just to check how he is doing.

Riley’s got to be happy today. One of the best coaches (Kalen DeBoer) is leaving the new Big Ten and Jim Harbaugh might be next. But Riley wouldn’t be happy if Washington hired Klieman. I still think Riley’s trying to get in the mix for some NFL jobs too, so there’s that.

  1. I do agree that Riley doesnt want to stay in college football. He doesnt want to work that hard, wants to spend time with family and he is probably best as a guy sitting in the film room looking at strategies, rather than recruiting, etc.

Although you have to ask the question – did Riley succeed because he had such great athletes at Oklahoma? if the NFL tends to equalize talent with the draft process, can Riley win in the NFL?

Coaches that can win without a talent advantage, like DaBoer are the true gems.

I listened to an interview with the head of House of Victory, the USC NIL. Boy, you can just tell that they have had to come from way behind. I think a big part of Riley’s failure to win recruits in the past was NIL, another part was probably Grinch and mediocre staff.

House of Victory has 2 full time paid employees. How good can it be with a staff that size?

But he did say that Jen Cohen understood the importance of NIL and was trying to improve things. Maybe by the 2025 recruits USC can be in the same ballpark as some of the other schools.

Anyone complaining about Riley’s recruiting failures who hasn’t written a check to support the team can just shut up.

    1. It seems Jen is keeping USC out of the way of NIL much better than Bohn ever did. It seemed Bohn wanted every dime to pass across his desk. Now they have to be careful, the ncaa is getting after Florida State and their NIL abuses. Funny they are not yet going after some the big spenders, but a lot of them are in the SEC.

    2. Gametv, shut your asshole mouth. You got a lot of nerve with your last sentence. Contribute to a NIL when players transfer left and right and then some is plain
stupidity. What is your story? Did you pay full tuition or even attend USC?

Frankly, I can think of hundreds of worthy causes to donate to before paying college athletes on scholarship to do what they already promised to do – play in exchange for free tuition, room and board.

      1. It’s not OUR fault that Riley gave last year’s rival recruiters the ready-made pitch, “Look at who they’re keeping as their D. C!” I don’t have to write a check to criticize that decision….and, frankly, since there are people living in tents on Maui — out of work, with kids to feed….

      2. Homeless families with hungry kids or an entitled 20 year old who has a scholarship and is looking at a 10 million NFL contract next year? He really needs that extra $500,000 payola on top of his NIL deal. (We are a sick society.)

      6. Grabby — We have a housing crisis right here & now in Maui. Senator Hirono said [thru Chuck Schumer] that Maui doesn’t want assistance until Ukraine receives another 100 billion to continue their losing war. A strange position. I talk to lots of folks on island and they are [naively] pleased with Hirono’s take….. not realizing that the funds for temporary assistance to the thousands of homeless will run out soon. For now, they’re happy as clams —not appreciating the fact the 195 million dollars we got isn’t gonna go very far in bringing the island back from the 11 billion in damages we suffered as a result of serious government negligence.
History seems to repeat, don’t it?

  3. It doesn’t matter if Kingsbury is here or not it’s up to LR to put players in position to succeed so stop blaming everything on Kingsbury LR is the HC not Kingsbury Wolfe. Just get some coaches who teach techniques m develop and everything else will take care of it’s self.

  4. What specifically does Wolf have against Jedd Fisch? I mean beyond the regular level of bitter jealousy and resentment Scott carries for the world. ‘Cause Fisch really doesn’t seem like a guy who should draw a whole lot of hatred. I mean he’s no Lane Kiffen; he’s just a run-of-the-mill coach, and one with a pretty good resume. So what’s the deal?

I love the story of him breaking the frame and tearing up her picture in a Las Vegas hotel room —then getting down on all fours to find every last piece of the torn parts —finally telling Peter Lawford he’d give him a thousand bucks to find Eva’s nose [which he did –it was under the couch]….

  6. I really want to see the MIA @ K. game tomorrow evening sooo I just signed a month-to-month subscription with Peacock. It was a lot easier than I thought it was after I got my internet provider firewall to back the heck off on their ‘…safety for all…’ embedded protocol. $6 per mo..

I think Pete Carroll is marketing himself to franchises that have been in the doldrums for a while – Chargers, Cardinals, Colts, Titabs, Bears – not dumpster fires with crazy front office – Jets, Panthers, Commanders.

Pete isn’t through….he has a desire to do what no other gead coach has ever done 3 college ntl’ chsmpionshops coupled with 2 SB with 2 different teams. Belichick brings way too much ‘expected entitlement’ and it can’t be denied once Brady left the magic was gone.

  8. I might have been tempted to watch the Miami at KC game tonight except it is exclusively on some program called ‘Peacock,’ another NFL money grab tactic which is the precursor of the future of ‘pay-for-view’ only, and which is an apropos name in that a peacock in its vanity has the worst shrill of all the birds (Just ask Wiley as they have taken over Palos Verdes)

  9. When that Oregon football coach posted a video saying “I’m not leaving [Oregon]” and got 12-million views the thinking was he is either insane for saying that or he is telling the truth

And ‘De Bore’ turned down a Wash raise to over $8-mil so it seems money is not the over-riding factor with these guys (how much better can you eat at $4-mil vs $8-mil?), but rather the opportunity and challenge to try to keep it going at Alabama

  10. ‘De Bore’ might have won that Alabama job by his sideline demeanor,
Whereas the Oregon ‘coach-creep’ and Wiley are immature screamers
De Bore is “cool, calm and collected,” he acts like a real football coach

-In the ways of Rockne and Jones as I imagined they would be
Bear Bryant, McKay, with only the cool-emotional ‘Carrot’ being the exception

  11. I have suddenly become an Alabama fan in a sense, with its national championship history throughout the 2010s, what, 6 titles, and this year’s team with less talent almost went all the way.
I haven’t given them the credit they deserve- they have hurt my Trojan teams in the past
But Crimson Tide fans and me are not Israel-Gaza, all I say is I have become a fan of your unprecedented ‘Dynasty’ surpassing the Celtics and Yankees even

      1. College football dynasties are now ‘dinosaurs,’ impossible to replicate with the new “12-Team Playoff” System in play-

Facing off against the 12 best teams in the country the winner will have to win at least 3-games and possibly 4. No one school will ever dominate again. And why not spread the ‘wealth’ around a bit, have an “unknown” school win it once in a while

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Did you say “less talent”? The 2023 Alabama team had seventeen 5-stars and fifty three 4-stars. The 2023 USC team had six 5-stars and thirty eight 4-stars. Alabama had plenty of talent
