There’s been a lot of anger in Seattle over the defection of Kalen DeBoer to Alabama.
It feels like Oklahoma when Lincoln Riley left.
Here is the reaction of Seattle radio host Jason Puckett:
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsAll of them. Don't ever trust these people. Ever.
— Puck (@PuckKJR) January 12, 2024
Don't let others tell you that you should be happy for him. Why?
One of the biggest frauds in Seattle sports history. https://t.co/PJJQPxjGX7
- Former USC All-American and ex-assistant Dennis Thurman is expected to be named defensive coordinator at Hawaii according to 247Sports. He was an analyst at Colorado last season.
“One of the biggest frauds in Seattle sports history. Professional liars”
For a minute there I thought they were talking about lawyers.
‘De Bore’ may be a hypocrite but he is no fraud because the implication in any of these high profile football contracts is that the coach may move on without notice

The reason these coaches make so much money is that winning in college football has such massive benefits to the university. It bonds alumni to the university and increases donations and it generates huge profits. The top schools will soon (within 2-4 years) form a separate division/league and leave the rest behind.
If you dont like the game, dont play, or find a coach who is fine with losing and tell your alumni to enjoy losing.

If someone had asked Jason Puckett two years ago if he would love to have a coach for only two years in exchange for a 25-3 record and a Playoff Win, my guess is his tone would be very different. Like it or not, DeBoer is managing his career very well, and likely has NFL aspirations in the future.

He saw what awaited him as the head coach of WA Huskie football next year in the Big10 – he was boat raced by MI both in size and speed. The same awaits USC unless Riley recreates himself.

Riley and Cohen are getting serious and making the right staff moves and player moves. It is time for Riley to hire Taylor Mays as an on-field coach, the secondary took a huge jump in 6 weeks that they had not taken in years under Donte. Forget coaching experience, I will take results every day of the year.

You can only hire so many coaches. If the rumors are true about SC getting the Rams defensive line coach it should be announced soon now that the rams have lost.

As I just mentioned in Scott’s previous post, DeBoer’s overnight tie switch was almost like D’Artagnan removing his Musketeer uniform and donning the vest of one of the Cardinal’s Guards [I say “almost” cuz that was a time of honor and D’Artagnan would NEVER do such a thing]…..

However I thought that after the Musketeers were dissolved D’Artagnan resorted to the protectorship of the Cardinal

Aramis, maybe….. but NEVER D’Artagnan [although the Cardinal ceases being D’Artagnan’s enemy…and D’Artagnan even spares Rochefort’s life after their last duel “and they shook hands and vowed to be enemies no longer”] …..

Very good, MG! I’m also getting a Godfather vibe here. Tessio: “Tell Mike it was only business. I always liked him.”
Seems like that, in essence, is every coach’s speech when he announces he’s leaving. Coaches should just say “Tell the fans it was only business. I always liked them.” It covers everything they eventually take 20 to 30 minutes to say. Or, better yet, they could just quote Hyman Roth: “This is the business we’ve chosen.” Then say “Thank you for coming,” leave the gun, take the cannoli, and walk off the stage.

So are you saying the fans are saps to be loyal and sing the fight song and alma mater to a school when it is in fact a business, no more deserving of loyalty than Amgen, IBM or Apple?

Ha! [Only thing I would do differently: “Take the cannoli…and better take the gun too…”]…..

If its any consolation to our Washington friends, USC lost Clay Helton to Georgia Southern. The program hasn’t been the same since Clay left.

Did any of them ever ruin a motorcycle helmet with a roundhouse kick to the head? (Joking, of course. One of the worst in Venice was Michael Langman who kicked a defenseless 15 year old Yorkie into the street right in front of its owner. Poor little guy died 3 weeks later.)

Coaches and player’s always chase the bag, no loyalty to the university just themselves. This is just the way it is right now. Washington get over it.

Unlike when Wiley and De Bore left town with their screaming fans crying, “How could you do this, you Traitor!”
when Helton left the screaming was, “What took you so long!”

Either the Kansas or K State coaches would do great at WA. I don’t think Pete could put up with these entitled high school players.

Even Saban was struggling with the portal and NIL. He also lost his NCAA Protector Mark Emmert. All of the advantages he had are gone. Alabama has won only 1 of the last 6 National Titles and while still a top program, they are not THE program anymore.

PT, I love you like a stepbrother but you need to evaluate the situation a little better.
PC is way beyond the year-round grind of recruiting. Plus, throw in competing with
the portal and NIL. So what is left that would be appealing to a 72 year old man that’s over the hill.

Gabby,
I agree wiht you. However, I think Pete still wants to coach for a couple of years to see if he can still coach and build one more dynasty. My opinion
LikeLiked by 2 people
I can’t get in his head but if he has the personal motivation to build a dynasty more power to him. I’ll be along for the ride.
Money has ruined the recruiting integrity and there needs to be some type of cap on it per team, similar to professional sports. It’s going to take more NCAA sanctions related to NIL before we see regulation that gives all teams equal footing.
I am sure USC has lost potential commits due to being outbid by these “signing bonuses”, for lack of a better term,
