I’ve never been a fan of Jedd Fisch and the guy revealed himself this weekend.
A college coach told me Sunday night he heard Fisch already asked at least five Arizona starters to come to Washington and the number is supposed to get much bigger. He also had a 3-minute meeting with his Arizona team to tell them he was leaving. He coached there three years and it took 3 minutes to say goodbye.
There’s nothing wrong with going to a bigger school but in coaching circles it’s been known the past couple months Fisch was eager to leave Arizona. His name was being strongly linked to UCLA when it looked like Chip Kelly might be fired.
What was his hurry to leave Tucson with so many Arizona players slated to return next season? Fisch has had 11 jobs since 2008. Everyone in college football knew he wanted the Florida job (his alma mater) if it opens after next season.
The guy will probably be at Washington at maximum of three seasons, win or lose.
- Fisch kind of lucked into the Washington job. Sources tell me that both Chris Klieman (Kansas State) and Lance Leipold (Kansas) turned it down.
Happy MLK Day all my Brothers & Sisters!!

People’s views on public figures are often complex, and historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr. are remembered for both their achievements and their transgressions. Bill Clinton and John Kennedy also come to mind.

MLK in his “I have a dream” speech said he wanted people to be judged “not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” That kind of talk is no longer acceptable at college campuses. A person who speaks this way will failed the litmus test for a democratic nomination to the Federal courts. Can’t square this language with DEI, where you are judged by the color of your skin and not by the content of your character.

I liked MLK. I always thought that he was a force for good who sincerely wanted to change things in a peaceful way, unlike BLM. He was a very brave person. He must have known that he was going to be assassinated and yet he continued. But I guess he must have missed that part in the bible about adultery. The FBI have tapes of him during his adulterous occassions and Ralph Abernathy(his best friend and closest confidant) later wrote a book about MLK where he comes right out and says that all of it is true. As a fan of MLK, the only thing I can say is nobody is perfect. You can say what you want about MLK but you have to admit, he had a lot of good qualities. I guess a weakness for women was his dark side.

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms – greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge – has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning entity called USC.”

Great coach. They have a defensive coaching staff that is 2nd to none. And they have a lot of good players on that side of the ball.

Every year there’s a coaching carousel. It’s no different this year. In the NCAA, it’s only a matter of time before the schools can directly compensate players. That’s already been proposed by one of the NCAA directors. The gulf between the haves and the have nots is already wide, but it’s going to be a lot wider. Schools like Texas that have a lot of money from revenue and boosters will simply make better offers to recruits. The landscape is changing quickly. In some ways it’s sad that tradition, spirit and loyalty are not the main factors. But the players are risking serious injury on every play, and the academic opportunities just don’t matter. Guys like Cormack Carney and Byron Wizzer White who excelled as academic scholars are far too rare.

Great article on speechwriter for MLK – https://www.thefp.com/p/mlk-speechwriter-trying-to-save-soul-of-americaf
Quote at end…
“Commit yourself irredeemably to the pursuit of personal excellence,” he says emphatically. “Be the very best that you can be. If you do that. . . our color becomes more relevant, because we demonstrate ‘black is beautiful’ not as some slogan, but black is beautiful because of its commitment to personal excellence, which has no color.”

Nice sentiment but it may be a bit too abstract to have much effect or lead to personal change. ‘Be the very best that you can be” is too lofty of a goal and shouldn’t even be required to acquire equal treatment

Eric Henderson has been announced as co-DC, run game coordinator and d-line. Anyone who says Riley is not serious about defense it not paying attention.
I do think this defensive staff is about as good as it gets in college football. In the next transfer portal opening, they are going to be aiming to pull in even a couple more great players.
Now they just need to get the donations to compete on NIL.
USC lost 20 players to the portal and only 2-3 of them would have ever played at USC going forward. They have finished removing the players that cant contribute.
I still want them to bring on Taylor Mays. He is a coach that could really develop and stick around for a long time as a true Trojan.
Anyone who thinks USC’s defense is limited by the performance from last year just isnt paying attention.

Everyone wants Mays but is there an opening for an on-field coach? You can only have a certain amount of on-field coaches.

Young D’Anton Lynn was the first year defensive coordinator at UCLA and hired to be the D coordinator at USC. Then long time d coordinator and head coach of North Dakota State Matt Entz is hired as linebackers coach. Now Eric Henderson, the Rams successful defensive line coach is hired to become the USC co-defensive coordinator. That is a lot of defensive coordinators. Perhaps too many cooks spoil the broth. Who makes the ultimate decision on who starts and what alignments to use.
Hey Chickenshit Gabby! Did I embellish? If so, what statement above constitutes an embellishment? And how did I embellish by quoting from an MLK speech. By definition, quotes are not embellishments. Why don’t you do something productive today like watch a video of an elephant taking a shit. Or, you could make fun of fire victims or people suffering from terminal illnesses who are in hospice care. You know, the kinds of things that give your mentally ill mind enjoyment in life.
