Every time a player enters the transfer portal, there is a segment of fanboys that act like he will automatically come play for USC.
If there is something to suggest the player will come to USC, no problem. But far too often, there is no chance (either the player doesn’t want to come or USC doesn’t want them) and they still act like it’s a good chance.
Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor entered the transfer portal today. Let’s see if USC can become a real contender here. The problem is what does USC have to offer a lineman besides money? Is there anything to suggest the current regime will develop a lineman for the NFL or in the case of Proctor, a first-round draft pick.
If this were the old days when Hudson Houck were the o-line coach, USC would be able to waltz into Proctor’s recruitment. But now it has the Air Raid offense and no linemen development to offer. Maybe I’m wrong. It would be great for USC if I were. We’ll see.
The USC football brand has been tarnished over the last decade, and it continues to be. The Trojans are just a shell of themselves because the administration have made poor hires. So until a the right coach is put in place, to bring the program back where it supposed to be, the delusional fanboys will continue to live in the past.

I guess you could be correct, but I do not think you are. When he took over the cupboard was bare.2022 season was a good year due to an easier schedule than 2023.
But last year showed how bare it was. I think the ‘O’ line coach made as big of mistakes as grinch. I would probably fire him too, especially if he does the same this year, and move proven players out of position and create the mess he did last year.

No top OL with a brain will go to an Air Raid offense

We don’t need brainy O-Linemen.

Well, since most OL are actually the real students out of all the position players, I’d say they do

There is a real double-standard on this site. Everything Riley does and every USC coach sucks and every other team is wonderful.
USC missed on a couple high rated players that would have made them top 10 in rankings, but if you really understand recruiting USC got alot of what they really needed this cycle. Just getting a top class doesnt prove anything, look at Texas A&M, or look at Utah for a team that develops players.
The Holiday Bowl proved that Grinch, Donte and Williams were all, in different ways, a detriment to the team. USC got so much better in a few weeks. They are putting alot of focus building the line of scrimmage this year, but it is real young.
We will find out if Henson is a good o-line coach this year.

If USC gets pushed off the LOS is going to be a long night for the Trojans.
MG sounds like a major fanboy. I am cautiously optimistic.

Procter is from Iowa. Right Nothing to suggest he’s coming to USC.

Agree CR SC doesn’t have a chance with Proctor. We don’t have enough NIL$$ n we haven’t shown to prospects like Proctor. This is a big if, n if he gives SC a visit then we can hope. 2 things need to happen better defense and a physical run game will bring in recruits like Proctor.

Think about it– only because SC went 7-5 were all these changes made.
If SC had beaten Wash and Utah (they should have) the record would have been 9-3
and most every Trojan would not have clamored for immediate change

I agree. And that’s why I think 2024 will be a really good season. The disaster in 2023 caused a humongus shift in LR’s philosophy. He really always has believed that you could win a NC with just offense. That thinking came to an end in 2023 mainly because of 2023. Going into 2023, he still believed it or he wouldn’t have brought back Grench. LR is still evolving. He’s still a really young HC. 2024 is only his 8th year as a HC and he’s never had a losing season. Tom Landry didn’t have a winning season until his 7th year as a HC. The people who want to put him on a slow boat to China may be getting rid of a really good coach.

I think we’re gonna see a lot more Louisville and a lot fewer UCLA performances —and that oughta be good for 9 or 10 wins.

Parcel,
Mckay took over in 1960 and he showed a winning season in 19ge is clamping ge62. I think people can and do change. I just think it is taking Riley for a ride seeing that SC is big boy football and that the heritage is putting the pressure on him

really? a truly lousy defense 2 yrs in a row with no other solution in site?

well, to put it succinctly…you are wrong about SC is an air raid offense;
they are about a 50/50 run/pass offense. SC is not a great ground game offense, that was mostly due to an dumb idea of causing linemen to play opposite of what they had been very good at…kinda’ like the grinch defense putting players in a scheme they could not learn.

At Oklahoma they were actually 55/45 run/pass when LR was there. Last year(2023) they were about 43/57 run/pass. I think that has to do with KK and Caleb hogging the ball. LR has not run his Oklahoma offense while at SC. Hopefully, now that those 2 guys are gone we will get back to LR’s best offense.

the way the ‘O’ line was I’m surprised they ran that much but it is still obvious this is not an air raid offense as the definition of one is not a 45/55 …air raid is closer to 2/3 passing.
