A former USC basketball coach texted me this morning.
“How is USC worse than Oregon State in the Pac-12? Look at the resources? The size of the cities they are in? The rosters? The arenas they play in?
“Andy Enfield couldn’t control all the egos. It’s that simple.”
There are many reasons Enfield is a bad coach. But being below Oregon State really illustrates how poor a job he has done this season.
- I told Ed Orgeron this morning that the tweet from the Saguaro High School coach reminded me of his famous meeting with then-UCLA assistant coach Gary Bernardi.
“Hell yeah,” Orgeron responded.

I always think back to that heartbreaking loss to eventual NCAA Final Four Michigan State when Daniel Hackett has a layup to tie the game with 50 seconds left and somehow lost control of the ball… that was a NCAA champion team and instead it all imploded on Tim Floyd 3 months later. Hackett makes that layup and USC wins the NCAA and Floyd is on top of the world.
