Some Truly Ridiculous Recruiting Classes

I’ve been unimpressed with USC’s No. 18 ranking in recruiting.

But have you seen UCLA and Colorado? UCLA is ranked No. 83 by Rivals. Colorado is ranked No. 90.

Now they are both ranked this low because they hardly signed anyone. UCLA signed 10 players. Colorado signed 8.

But that’s not an excuse! You need more freshmen than that, even if you think the transfer portal is the place to build your program.

This is why when I checked some UCLA twitter accounts yesterday, it was crickets on recruiting. They chose to focus on every play of the UCLA-Stanford basketball game instead.

  • You know what the coaching grapevine is saying about Chip Kelly right now? He knows athletic director Martin Jarmond was going to do a number on him (fire him) but couldn’t get approval, so he’s going to do a number on UCLA and leave them without a coach if he can get the Seahawks offensive coordinator job.

      1. You have to factor in this fact, karma —before the game Lincoln told the team, “I know a lot of you are disappointed with the results of the last few games… but I have good news… Caleb told me I can have the team back right after the UCLA game…. so hang in there… I’ll return to being your Head Coach right after UCLA slaughters you on account of Caleb doing whatever the fuck he wants to on every series.”

      1. You’d have a mental breakdown too if your QB told you “shut the fuck up” during every timeout…..

  3. #18 isn’t bad if you can retain and develop them. Clay Helton’s (Tee Martin’s) 4 and 5 star recruits left en masse upon getting better acquainted with Clay.

    1. Agree Charles. You need to consider the needs of the program when evaluating a recruiting class. We don’t need a 5* qb or wide receivers this cycle. We are stacked with young WRs and have a 5* qb committed for next year. We need to develop young OL and we have had two very good OL recruiting classes. And we recruited a few good DL and edge rushers. We really bolstered our defensive by get a big fat nose guard from the portal, a defensive tackle from Vanderbilt, an all conference LB and safety from Oregon State, a really good safety from UCLA and a few CB from the portal along with some recruits. The #18 rating means nothing. We are going to be much better with the coaching changes and the new players are going to be enough to make us a solid team. And look who we got rid off – Alex Grinch, Donte Williams, Domani Jackson, Ceyair Wright, Tackett Curtis, Jarret Kingston, Michael Tarquin, Justin Dedich and Korey Foreman. We will replace these guys with coaches who can coach and players who can play.

    2. #18 is not exactly what PC used to get. But he locked down the SoCal area. But with NIL I’m not sure he would have been able to do that.
