Remembering Rod Sherman

Wide receiver Rod Sherman, who made one of the greatest catches in USC history, died Tuesday. He was 79.

Sherman will forever be known for one moment.

In 1964, No. 1-ranked Notre Dame led USC, 17-0, at halftime. It was 17-7 entering the fourth quarter. USC trailed 17-13 with 1:33 left and had a fourth-and-eight at the Irish 15-yard line.

Quarterback Craig Fertig dropped back and found Sherman for the touchdown catch. The victory ruined Norte Dame’s perfect season. Here is the scene below:

A little-known fact about Sherman is that he started out at UCLA and then transferred to Pasadena City College before going to USC.

Sherman went to Muir High School in Pasadena and joined the Oakland Raiders in 1967. He helped Oakland win an AFL Championship as a rookie and his then-team-record 82-yard touchdown reception from Daryle Lamonica at Oakland Coliseum led the Raiders to a 21-14 win over Miami in a 1970 AFC Divisional playoff game, sending them to the AFC Championship Game.

He played seven seasons with the Raiders, Bengals, Broncos, and Rams. Sherman finished his NFL career with 105 receptions for 1,576 yards and five touchdowns.

      3. It’s truly pathetic with all the daily political BS you like to shit out of your mouth, and when it comes to any extended political debate your stale response is always- “You voted for this”. Do you even have the intellectual ability to debate yourself out of a paper bag?…… I have yet to see it……..just saying

In one simple word, you’re dumb!

The pathetic part, others see it and try to help and or stick up for you.

  2. ‘Bitin’ or ‘Chump,’ what’s the difference, each elected party takes its turn tearing down this once great country

    Like

    1. What’s the difference? Well, let’s just take the southern border for one.

Trump- implemented the “stay in Mexico” policy, eliminated “catch and release” and was building a wall. Illegal immigration was at the lowest number in many years. On his first day by executive order, Biden withdrew these policies. We have 10,000,000 unvetted illegals crossing the border with about ten thousand added each day. So what’s the result. We have spent billions attempting to feed, cloth, and house these people at the expense of other programs that could benefit legal citizens. Newsome has given them free health care, something that is not extended to legal citizens but legal citizens pay for it. We have a housing shortage and budget deficit and 10,000,000 additional people will add to it and further contribute to inflation. Fentanyl travels along with some of these illegals and fentanyl deaths per year now stand at about 100,000. Who knows what kinds of diseases come into the country with these people – tuberculosis? Mexican cartels have now established a stronghold in San Diego county. And worse of all, the Chinese are sending thousands of soldiers through the open border and Muslim terrorists have also entered. FBI director Wray has called it a crisis. “It is not if the terrorist attack but when. ”

We can discuss the difference between the Democrats and Republicans on crime, and energy independence in our next segment.

      1. I have in-laws who complained Trump “was ruining the American experiment” [a phrase they lazily picked up from watching too much MSNBC—several thousand hours too much]. Because they didn’t know what the American Experiment was —they bought the line. The American Experiment is contained in the United States Constitution —Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly, Right To Bear Arms, Free & Unrestricted Trade, Border Security, Free Elections, Right To Own Property, All CITIZENS afforded Due Process of Law [before property or life can be taken], etc. Trump did NOT interfere with these rights —Biden has.

So here we are full circle and trump is running from the law and Biden is running the country.

Trump could only dream of the economic numbers Biden has put up, yet trump said a couple of weeks ago he should get credit for it……

For example, you STILL can not figure out what “energy independence” represents.
Trump raised the deficit over four years, percentage-wise, more than any other Prez in history. Yet, you voice no outrage over that….And Obama deported more illegals than any Prez in history. Newsom should get an award for the humanitarian aid he has provided. The crap you post is laughable

The crap you post is laughable! No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to live in this country. If you don’t like what’s going then bail, simple!

I’ve taken heat many times for calling you a clever debater. I still say you’re wrong on most everything —but you sure know how to argue your case. That’s what America is all about — the marketplace of competing ideas.

      5. MG: So Gabby is a “clever debater” who “sure knows how to argue his case.” I don’t get it. The topic was the differences in policies on the southern border between Trump and Biden and the affects of those policies. As usual, Gabby didn’t even make an argument. He did not address the differences in policies or the resulting consequences or suggest that my factual assertions were incorrect. Instead, he said that Obama deported more illegals than Trump. How is that relevant. I suppose if you have no facts to argue then you can introduce irrelevant facts in an attempt to deflect and mislead but I do not find that method clever or persuasive. It is intellectually dishonest to deflect in response to an argument.

      6. I will be honest with you, Biden is way past his prime and should step aside. But for me, it comes down to anyone but trump. That’s the only reason why I continue to support the guy. I wish there was an option #2 within the DEM party.

At the moment, I think Haley is the best option between the two old guys and is not getting enough respect. People will not move off trump and it scares me to think what will come if he’s back in the WH

One last thing [I sound like Judi Dench before she launches into her Tennyson poem in Skyfall]: The Unites States took in 4.3 trillion in revenues and is spending close to 7 trillion [much of it on crap the American people don’t want]. The next generation is gonna pay a big price for those “economic numbers” Biden has put up.

        Liked by 1 person

      8. I’m [WAY] too lazy to comply with that request, Gabby [today is a drawing day for me] ….but… if you add up all the items contained in the [to be voted on] March 1st Spending Bill [and add to that amount our interest payments on the debt] the number will be around 7 trillion. If you add up all tax revenue it’ll come in at less than four and a half trillion. Most of the difference will have to made up by printing money….lots & lots of it.
Biden will be able to prop up the economy till November—but the price tag will be shouldered by the next generation.

      9. Sorry to interrupt your daily routine(lol)……

I call that kicking the can down the road. Every Prez preceding Biden has done it in some shape or form. I think Bill might have kicked it the least distance(could be wrong). Biden is in lockstep with the rest. How much money did the Republicans flush down the toilet between Iraq and Afgan, or PPP money that went to stock buybacks, I lost track of the zeros.

My point is, that both sides have been doing it. So it reeks of hypocrisy!

      13. MG says “Gabby was right when he said repubs and dems have equally screwed up this country.” EQUALLY

That is the same statement that Sparrow made. It is not true. Dems have done much more damage than Repubs. (Admittedly, both parties spend too much money.) The southern border is just one example. How about crime. Are Soro DAs a good idea. How about no cash bail or defunding the police. Trump wants to drill for oil and natural gas in the gulf and Alaska. Biden signed the Paris accords and is denying drilling permits. Guess which party wants the BLM educational agenda to become mandatory curriculum in public schools. Who do you want to pick the next Supreme Court justice – Biden! Do you want Trump or Biden to negotiate with Europe, China, Russia, North Korea and Iran. We are now dangerously close to WWIII and we would not be in this position if Trump were President.

The fact he can’t remember that simple detail of a son he supposedly loved so much is very telling. But not surprising to anyone who isn’t in serious denial. We all saw it in 2020, well before the last election. It it not a new development.

      4. Here’s a BIG problem you can’t get your head around, mental midget……..Regarding independent voters in 2020, a vote for Biden was a vote against trump. In late 2020, 5k a day were dying from COVID-19 and 11 million were unemployed and all trump could do was talk about himself and cry election/voter fraud. At the time, Biden was seen as the lesser of the two evils

Trump was well on his way to reelection but his incompetence and vanity led to his demise. Blame trump, not Biden for the 2020 results, he convinced the voters.
