USC Morning Buzz: Making NFL Combine Without Help

Christian Roland-Wallace was one of eight USC players selected for the NFL Combine.

But he did it all by himself because he didn’t get any help from the USC coaches.

Let’s review: The minute Roland-Wallace transferred to USC, I said he was their best cornerback. So what do the USC coaches do in the summer? They try to convert him to a nickel back!

This is a guy who started 37 games at cornerback for Arizona and he comes to USC and is told he can’t compete with Ceyair Wright and Domani Jackson?!?! What were the coaches (especially Donte Williams) thinking?

Roland-Wallace quickly got moved back to cornerback but didn’t even start there until Game 4! He was suspended the first 1.5 games so he couldn’t start the first two games. But why didn’t he start Game 3?

Somehow, the coaches didn’t think he beat out Wright and Jackson after they watched him practice in person during training camp and the first two weeks of the season?

What did they see in Wright and Jackson, who were not regular starters before 2023, over Roland-Wallace? What did they see in them at the end of the season?

This was coaching malpractice. NFL teams are legitimately interested in Roland-Wallace right now but they can’t figure out why USC was so late to recognize his skills. Of course, the fanboys will try to defend Lincoln Riley, Alex Grinch and Williams on this but there really isn’t a defense that makes sense.

  • Cassie Bibby, a soccer player at Santa Monica High School, signed a letter of intent with USC. She is the daughter of former USC coach Henry Bibby.

Henry Bibby attended the Signing Day ceremony last week.

  2. NFL scouts and analysts who were evaluating Caleb Williams said the USC offensive line was atrocious last season, which is why Williams was always on the run. But Lincoln Riley said it was everything but that. 😂. Against Notre Dame, Riley said it was bad play calling on his part and never addressed the weak line of scrimmage play. My Trojans are doomed next season 🙄🙄

        Well, for my part, Caleb AND the O-line left a lot to be desired for the entire second half of the 2024 season… whenever Lincoln talks about the O-line playing a “solid game” —which he actually did after both the Washington and Oregon losses [and even went so far as to say the O-Line “took a step back” in the
        UCLA game—you know, like they had “arrived” before that] —-he sounds like a clueless horse’s ass….

SEC & BIG 10 interest is at an all time high, the PAC 12 is now the PAC 2, MWC games aside from Boise draw no one, the BIG 12 might draw pretty well, the ACC is so so, we’ll see how this plays out going forward, if they don’t get NIL and the portal under control I still think you’ll see schools dropping football and if these knuckleheads ever unionize, college football will be in trouble.

        You ignorant slut, when Mayorkas took office, he swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Part of his responsiblity is to protect and defend the US by making sure that the boarders are closed and there is only a legal way of allowing immigrants in the US. Crossing the border without proper means is illegal and is a felon. Mayorkas has allowed 8 million felons into the US. That is aiding and abetting the felons.   9. Wolf, Christian enrolled late and didn’t know all the calls. Plus, they wanted him to defend tight ends in Grinch’s scheme. Finally, they assumed he’d get picked on due to his lack of straight-line speed.

    I didn’t say the coaches were right, just I’ll-conceived in their approach.
