The spring football game at the Coliseum on April 20 will be the same weekend as the Festival of Books. That means forget about parking on campus, because 40,000-50,000 attend the book festival. Probably not a great idea to visit the bookstore that day either.
Does USC think of these conflicts at all?
- The Ron Allice Invitational Track Meet will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach. Allice is the former long-time USC track coach who won a national title in 2001.
- And now for some history:

- This is an awesome moment. Richard Saukko took the field during the third quarter of the Notre Dame game in 1966 with Traveler I and Traveler II.

- USC halfback Don McCall, a graduate of Fremont High School in Los Angeles, gains yardage vs. Purdue in the 1967 Rose Bowl.

- With Rod Sherman’s passing last week, here’s another photo of the USC wide receiver against Cal in 1966.
- Below is another photo of Sherman against Miami in 1966.

- USC forward Bill Hewitt (33) dunks the ball vs. UCLA in 1967.

- Did you know comedian/satirist Mort Sahl (right) graduated from USC with a degree in public administration?
Here he is circa 1967 with USC student body president Taylor Hackford, who became a successful film director, best-known for “An Officer and a Gentleman” (1982); “Against All Odds (1984); “Blood In, Blood Out” (1993); “Dolores Claiborne” (1994) and “Ray” (2004).

- The Association performed at Bovard Auditorium in 1966. In case you need a reminder, here they are performing “Windy.”

- Actor Bill Cosby attended the 1966 USC-Notre Dame game. The blanket of flowers was for Traveler, who was performing at his final game.

- Marv Goux makes a pretty tough looking cowboy in this 1959 episode of the TV show, “Wanted: Dead or Alive.”

- USC halfback Jim Lawrence, a graduate of Buena Park High School, catches a pass in the 1967 Rose Bowl vs. Purdue.
- And finally, the Super Bowl halftime show in 1987 featured George Burns, Mickey Rooney, the Grambling band and . . . the USC band. Oh my.

A man was looking for a place to sit in a crowded university library. He asked a girl: “Do you mind if I sit beside you?”
The girl, in a loud voice, replied, “NO, I DON’T WANT TO SPEND THE NIGHT WITH YOU!”
All the people in the library started staring at the man, who was deeply embarrassed and moved to another table.
After a couple of minutes, the girl walked quietly to the man’s table and said with a laugh: “I study psychology, and I know what a man is thinking; I bet you felt embarrassed, right?
The man responded in a loud voice: “$500 FOR ONE NIGHT?… I`M NOT PAYING YOU THAT MUCH! ”
All the people in the library looked at the girl in shock. The man whispered to her: “I study law, and I know how to screw people”.

The law is quite clear!……and Texas has no authority over the Federal Government related to border issues. This is DOA!
Texas’ construction of the floating barrier violated two of the three courses of conduct by Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, according to the Sept. 6 order granting the United States’ motion for preliminary injunction in the U.S. v. Abbott case.
The first clause of the Harbors Act prohibits the creation of “any obstruction not affirmatively authorized by Congress, to the navigable capacity of any of the waters of the United States,” according to the order.
The second clause makes it unlawful “to build or commence the building of any wharf, pier, dolphin, boom, weir, breakwater, bulkhead, jetty, or other structures in any port, roadstead, haven, harbor, canal, navigable river, or other water of the United States,” according to the preliminary injunction motion.

Headline after LSU game: “USC defense carries day as offense struggles”

I’d settle for “The SC defense has now risen to one that is average”

…but…we’ll need more than that to beat LSU and Michigan to start off the season…..

No. We’ll have a great offense next year. Next years offense will have great rythm under Miller Moss as they take the short stuff until the defense comes up and the deep stuff opens up.. You won’t have Caleb hanging onto the ball and offensive linemen exhausted because for them each play lasts one minute plus from the time they first get down into their stance until the end of the play because Caleb is back there playing “catch me if you can”.

Or was Celeb running for his life because the OL sucked?

Listen to the announcers on the YouTube tapes of the San Jose, Nevada and Stanford games. You’ll hear nothing but foolish, over the top praise of Caleb running around for almost 25 seconds before releasing the ball [‘generational talent! nobody else in college football can do that!’]. I can almost guarantee you that’s when Caleb got the idea “they love me when I do that —all I gotta do for another Heisman is ignore the play calls and throw to the receiver who gets furthest down field before I get corralled or cross the righthand boundary!”

I went to the Nevada game and thought we were going to go undefeated after watching him in person- but it was Nevada.

…no o-line in the country could protect a quarterback who played like Caleb….least of all our 0-line….

On the other hand Patrick Mahomes improvises and led KC to repeat. Perhaps it was the poor coaching that squandered this generational talent?

Grabby …
…because of all the comparisons between the two I watched Mahomes carefully all throughout the playoffs … he rarely ran around in circles before throwing the way Caleb did all season…. [and when protection REALLY broke down, he took off—-which Caleb did very little of this season….so as to save himself for the NFL]….

That’s what they need to do….develope players because until they get their NIL game going, they are not going to get the 5 stars. People say “every time we’re in the hunt for a player and Oregon joins the hunt, they end up going to Oregon”. Oregon gets their man and we get nothing. Of course Oregon is going to get the kid…..they offered him 97 quadrillion dollars….why wouldn’t he go to Oregon? People say “but we’re getting better in recruiting…..we always end up in the final top three”. True, but ending up in the final top three is no better than ending up in the final top 1,000 if you don’t get the kid.

You want me to believe millions breached security barriers and continue to avoid apprehension. That’s the only way your assumption would be plausible.

The Science is Settled. Why are you Anti-Science?
In 2018, engineers and economists at Yale and MIT developed a model estimating what percentage of illegal immigrants trying to cross the southern border were successfully apprehended by CBP based on the percentage of repeat offenders.
At the time, the authors predicted that 50% of illegal border crossers were being apprehended. Reached by email, one author of the study estimated that percentage to be 68% today.

If Celeb was a generational quarterback then his successor will be less,
so stop with the SC’s offense will be improved in 2024

He wasn’t generational…he was/is very gifted. The memory most will recall about Caleb Williams is his post-game girly sobbing in mommy’s arms after his dream’s were lost. That proved Williams still has a lot of maturing to do.
