I’ve said repeatedly I expect USC’s defense to be better than last season.
I have to mention this because today, Lincoln Riley said he had a white board in his office with a list of coaches’ names that were the best developers of defensive talent and culture. He narrowed it down to 7 names.
“And we hired 4 of them.”
Think about that. Doug Belk, who didn’t have a job after Houston made a coaching change, was one of the top 7 coaches in the nation at developing talent. D’Anton Lynn, who has all of one year as a defensive coordinator, was one of the top 7 coaches in the country in developing talent.
Matt Entz, who was at an FCS school, was one of the 7 best. So was Eric Henderson, who coached Aaron Donald.
Now I’ve complimented some of these hires. But why does Riley have to make them one of the top 7 coaches in the nation at developing talent? Why the hyperbole? Just say you hired a great staff and have a lot of optimism for the fall.
Top 7? Who were the other three? Probably people a lot more proven, if Riley is honest.
Well, I’d cut Wiley more slack than Wolf does, and besides, I’m glad Wiles is paying so much attention to defense

I would guess that Riley is much better at deciding who the top coaches at developing talent are than a negative blogger like you.

Bohn’s Folly did a brilliant job entrusting Grinch with his defense, Kenny.

See that RB at LSU turned himself in for three felonies capped with attempted 2nd degree murder and he’s hoping for $512k bail.
Can’t wait for his acquittal beforecthat match-up in Vegas against USC this coming Labor Day weekend.
Imagine working or playing for Brian Kelly….

Gotta win the off-season so the dumb donors feel hopeful and will give USC money. Also, he’s probably getting a kick-back from the stupid paysites to help goose subscriptions to their State news.

Scooter,
Riley is addressing his weakness of favoritism and he is trying to be a head coach. I agree with you about the hyperbole, however, you have to give him credit for making change to the defense with him thinking that the changes are better. The only way we can tell is when an opponent is on the 2 yard line of SC and it is fourth down and SC stops them and other teams in the same position. Time will tell.

Those were vintage SC defenses, PT, today we should be satisfied if the Trojans keep opponents away from the Troy 2-yard line

Sparrrow,
Baltimore, KC, 49ers and others played that type of defense. SC can play that type again.
