The USC Saturday Column Supplement

USC could pull off a card stunt at the 1968 Rose Bowl.

  • The USC Rugby team went 13-1-2 in 1967. That’s offensive tackle Mike Taylor (77) playing for the rugby team (below photo). He made a key block in O.J. Simpson’s famous 64-yard run against UCLA.

Other members of the rugby team included tight end Bob Klein, defensive tackle Willard Scott and halfback Don McCall.

  • Might as well run a George Tirebiter photo today.
  • Mike Garrett returned to USC the spring semester following his rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Looks like he is wearing shoulder pads.

  1. That was an important Rose Bowl in 1968 as it completed the 1967 team’s national championship with a lackluster 14-3 victory over Indiana I believe

  2. Sorry folk Andy Enfield is not a basketball coach. In the last minutes of each overtime tonight when a key basket was needed 4 players were always standing around on offense watching either Boogie Ellie or our NBA to be point guard star go one on one which is pretty easy to defend. Street Ball does not win basketball games time for Enfield to become a wall street stock broker. The coach should be trying to win basketball games rather than showing off he can recruit NBA talent, and still lose basketball games!!!
Time to move on for Mr. Enfield…he might be able to recruit, but it is very clear he cannot teach team basketball which is a key requirement in college basketball. Other coaches in the Pac 12 are winning with far less talent take a look at the standings.
