USC Morning Buzz: Trojans Losing Coach To Harbaugh

The Chargers are finalizing the hiring of USC running backs coach Kiel McDonald, according to Adam Schefter.

Among the players McDonald coached at USC were Travis Dye, MarShawn Lloyd and Austin Jones. He also recruited last year’s freshmen, A’Marion Peterson and Quinten Joyner along with Mississippi State-transfer Jo’Quavious Marks.

REACTION: McDonald is one of the few coaches who has escaped criticism the past 2 seasons and maintained a good reputation at USC and Utah, where he coached Pac-12 offensive player of the year Zack Moss.

The chance to move to the NFL (without even moving physically) and work under Jim Harbaugh was too much to pass up, especially when Harbaugh will probably emphasize running the ball. There’s also the fact that some believe Lincoln Riley will be on the hot seat next season.

    2. you sound confused!….. In 2023, RBs averaged 28 carries per game, and passing was 35 attempts per game. How do you strike that type of balance if you’re not running the ball? …….and finished #3 in scoring at 41.8 per game.

      3. The Colorado game is a prime example of Riley having his head up his ass. Instead of running clock and keeping his defense off the field in the second half, he threw, threw and threw some more, taking a game that was a rout and making it a nail biter, utter stupidity.
