  1. Little slo cal was sitting in class, bored as usual…

The teacher decided that since it was Friday afternoon, and there was nothing left to do for the week, she’d let the students go home early if they could answer a question correctly.

Teacher: “Okay class, which president said: ‘The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself’?”
Little slo cal was bouncing up and down in his seat, arm raised: “OOH! OOH! I KNOW!”
Before the teacher could call on him, little Julie stood and said: “Franklin Roosevelt”.
“Very good Julie, you can go now.” the teacher replied.

“Okay class, which president said: ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country’?”
Again, little slow cal’s hand shot into the air and he waved his arms excitedly. “OOH! OOH! I KNOW! PLEASE!”
Again, before she had a chance to call on anyone, little Sally stood and said: “John Kennedy”
“Very good Sally, you may leave also.”

The teacher asked again “Okay class, which President said: “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall?”
Before slo cal could answer, little Jennifer jumped up and shouted: “Ronald Reagan!”

Thoroughly frustrated, little slow cal mumbled to himself: “I wish these bitches would keep their fucking mouths shut!”
The teacher heard and shouted: “WHO SAID THAT!?!”
Excited, slo cal jumped up and yelled: “Bill Clinton, see y’all Monday!”

  2. The shame is, the McKay center is the football building and is still in its infancy. “Just discard that and build something I want” Riley. Problem is, Last national title was won without either. And the sec schools and oregon had their new shinny toys at the time. Get a coach and staff that know what they are doing and develope kids,
and the arms race become much more irrelevant. My event group back in the mid 2000’s scored more ncaa points w/o any scholarship money and with equipment I supplied as a volunteer, than most schools that fully fund and scholarship the same event group. You have to know how to develope and then teach the kids how to compete.

    1. You’re failing to address the elephant in the room NIL……NICE TRY!

Other schools are in a much better bargaining position than USC. Brand and tradition don’t carry the same weight, ask Nick!

      1. I don’t disagree it is an issue now. But it has been in existence for 3 years now and this place has sucked for the last 14. NIL doesn’t mean shit if you can’t develop kids. So is portal. Look at the masters of the portal the last 2 years. The ones most jacked up for their use of the portal had flash in the pan success. First 4 to 8 games (with fairly soft schedules) then implosion. See Riley and Saunders. These are the most honored coaches for using the portal in the country They both went Bang with week schedules the fizzled after that. Deon in a season, Lincoln in 2 seasons. True program building has nothing too do with NIL and Portal. Its like taking uppers for minutes of punch up. The top programs in the nation use it to enhance what it is that they already have going. You put Dan Lanning, Kalen DeBore, Saben, Smart, at any institution in the country and give them 3-4 years of putting together of their staffs, Recruiting and developing and less NIL money than USC has and they will build contender programs. Why. Because they are judicious with who they recruit and with who they take in the portal. And 2, they can develop both players and coaches. Why is USC’s last 2 coaching hires created turnover on staff. Helton the turnover happened due to ineptness in hiring and only when a change had to be made and he was forced to by admin. No one new wanted to work for him because no one respected him so money had to be an enticement. Riley, knows no one outside his incestuous circle and he too had to be forced into turnover way too late in the process. He is very insecure too so everyone is a threat to him. The previously mentioned coaches? They have the same or more turnover. But for the opposite reason. Guys want to be there and do their jobs. Then get opportunities to become heads elsewhere. Then they rehire more of the same type and don’t miss a beat because they know what they are doing and have fool proof systems. So I don’t want to hear the sob story of money spent, or NIL, or Portal as being the reason. It is less a reason USC sucks and more of a reason College sports will collapse in 5 years if its not reigned in soon. You coach your kids how to do their job correctly, then you put them in the correct positions on game day and hold them accountable (as well as yourself). Kids develop, and you win games, those games that you should, and many that you shouldn’t. That’s culture right there. It is infectious. And with that comes more opportunities for NIL and You are more in demand in the portal and you can be more selective as well as need to take less players since you high school recruiting improves and you have better retention of the players you do have. I you think that NIL and Portal is the sole reason. Then you have never built anything of consequence in sport. Btw How has portal and NIL worked out for A&M? According to you (since they have more money than anyone) They should be working on their 4 straight national title by now.
