USC Sunday Buzz: Quite A Heisman Statement

Johnny Manziel said he will not attend another Heisman Trophy until Reggie Bush gets his Heisman back.

Bush might have a better chance of getting his Heisman back if Manziel instead promised to attend every ceremony until the trophy is returned.

  • Isaiah Collier had a career-high 31 points and made 14 of 20 shots against Washington on Saturday. That’s a player who knows his draft stock has slipped this season and only has a few games left to reverse that slide.
  • Former USC offensive tackle Tyron Smith is a free agent and expected to leave the Dallas Cowboys. Smith has been with the Cowboys his entire career (2011).
  • The social media warriors have been out all week during the NFL combine saying Caleb Williams is a selfish player. This sure doesn’t sound like it.

  1. The 2 sides to ‘Celeb’ (or are there 3?) are not necessarily mutually exclusive-
    He is obviously a social guy who likes people and people generally like him
    But he is selfish, at least on the field, as evidenced by his SC playing days

    I had a friend who we said didn’t care if you talked good or bad about him as long as you were talking about him. I think Manziel falls into that category, but he did make a profound statement when he said “Reggie Bush IS the Heisman,” that Bush “arguably was the greatest college player ever.”
    I personally never saw better; O.J. was All-Pro but in college Bush was Mr. Excitement

    And is the true Collier finally appearing? If he keeps this up SC could have a bit of a run in the Pac-12 Tournament but to win 4 games in 4 nights is when fatigue flexes its muscles

    1. Sorry, OJ was better. He captured the nation’s imagination in 1967-68. He was guest starred in the hit TV show Medical Center when he left USC in 1969, way before he made it big in the NFL . Reggie didn’t.

      But I don’t think Dementia Joe will be their nominee. Newsom will. The media helped cover up Joe’s dementia in 2020, but the curtain has been pulled away just as in The Wizard of Oz. Not so many will be stupid enough this time around.
