Morning Buzz: Is USC Better At Glamour Positions?

With spring practice starting next week, here’s a few basic questions:

  • Is USC better at QB?
  • Is USC better at tailback?
  • Is USC better at wide receiver?

You can make an argument that USC doesn’t have to be “better” if the defense improves and certain people do their jobs. But it’s worth noting at the moment the Trojans are clearly not better at these positions than a year ago.

And I am talking about the skill positions. The easy positions to thrive at for an Air Raid team. I haven’t even gotten to the offensive line or secondary yet.

There’s also the matter of Lincoln Riley’s distribution. Zacariah Branch will be better than last year. But will he get enough touches? That’s been a problem with Riley the past 2 seasons: Getting the ball in the hands of the best players.

Branch will catch more passes than last season. But will he catch as many as he should in Riley’s offense?

  • USC defeated Arizona, 4-1, on Sunday to salvage the final game of a three-game series with the Wildcats. The Trojans are 4-11 overall.
  • This is certainly interesting timing in firing a coach.

        Not sure I believe that, as many times as it’s used and secondly, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t give you an excuse to get violent and attack someone.

Thus, trolling is yet another internet activity that promotes narcissistic motives, since trolls may be expected to be far less successful in attracting people’s attention in the physical world. The only effective antidote to their tactics is to ignore them, but even then, trolls won’t suffer a public humiliation because nobody knows who they are. This is what makes trolling so ubiquitous – it requires no skills other than the ability to be obnoxious

Some of the Posters here must have been upset when last night’s Oscars’ host Kimmel read Trumps’ scathing review of Kimmel’s performance with Kimmel retorting, “Isn’t it past your jail time?” And there was a penis joke (in bad taste) and a nude John Cena to entertain the “on the edge” types here

    1. Not really, John. Trump kind of lobbed that one up there, “tweeting” about it before the show ended. Gave Kimmel an easy opportunity to knock it out of the park in front of Biden’s crowd for an easy laugh.

      It was amusing hearing the crowd get all excited about “20 Days In Mariupol” being recognized. Me? I would have preferred none of these conflicts having happened in the first place. But millions were more concerned about getting a mean orange guy out than all of the bloodshed that would result from putting a frail, incompetent, spineless, senile old guy in charge. They have so much blood on their hands and just lie to themselves about it.

    I don’t think the head coach, Riley, will improve and we will see the same results from last year on offense. It is in SC’s dna to be a physical pounding offense. They play passified offense with the oline back pedeling instead of driving. That is too bad.

    1. I could be wrong but I think next years offense will be really good. As good as Caleb was, he hurt that offense a lot by playing what one PFF analyst called “Hero Ball”. Moss won’t do that. Reality may prove me wrong but I think SC’s offense and defense are going to be really good in 2024. We’ll see.

        Let me educate you, plays are called based on what the defense gives you scheme-wise. Balanced play calling makes it more difficult to call the right defense to be in….

        It creates an advantage for the offense because the defense can’t key on tendencies, instead it has to play it “honest” and be ready for pass or run on any given play…

      4. John — A lotta times punches that knock you down don’t hurt that much. And you’re not even close to being knocked out. Check out the punch that knocked Tyson Fury down in his last fight [the one he won by split decision over the guy that Anthony Joshua knocked out over the weekend—I forget the guy’s name]. Tyson just got hit on the side of the head by an overhand. I’ve been knocked down with that punch a few times –cuz it lands on the side of your head it’s more like getting pushed down than knocked down. Anyway it doesn’t hurt —you just find yourself on the mat all of a sudden.

  14. I’ll take Miller Moss over Ohio State’s Will Howard and whoever Michigan is bringing in. USC’s skill position players will be best in Big Ten or close to it.

I don’t think he does, Grabby. Riley ONLY thinks he can win with his prototype QB. His whole offensive philosophy centers on getting a guy he thinks can keep plays going after the pocket breaks down. He saw Miller play a different kind of football in the Holiday Bowl —but it didn’t make an impression. He’ll go back to his kind of football —negate the team enthusiasm we saw against Louisville and stick a new [new to our system] QB in against LSU —and probably fuck up the season in the process.

    2. I think Miller Moss will be great next year. He doesn’t have Calebs natural talents nor his arm strength but he is a better pure passer than Caleb and he gets rid of the ball fast(unlike Caleb). He maintains the rythm in the offense. With all those great young receivers and the kid from Mississippi State, he is going to have a lot of open receivers next year. That kid from Mississippi caught 83 passes one year. He caught 214 passes in the last 4 years. That’s almost 54 a year. Plus the O-Line(and the rest of the players) will not be exhausted in the 3rd and 4th quarters because Caleb is causing the plays to be long and drawn out from the time the O-Linemen get to the LOS until the whistle blows.
