USC Morning Buzz: Will The Experience Gap Matter?

The other day I made fun of how when I hear new Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale’s name, I think of the game-show host.

But let’s compare and contrast for a minute: Martindale has been a defensive coordinator for three NFL teams (Giants, Ravens, Broncos) and three colleges (Defiance, Western Illinois, Western Kentucky) prior to coming to Michigan.

New USC defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn has been a defensive coordinator for one season at UCLA.

Experience does not guarantee success. But it is quite a contrast.

  • This is pretty weird. Arizona State guard Jose Perez quit the team after the Sun Devils played USC on Thursday at the Galen Center and then played a pro basketball game in the Dominican Republic on Sunday.

Perez didn’t care ASU played UCLA on Saturday or plays in the Pac-12 Tournament against Utah on Wednesday. He couldn’t wait a week before turning pro?

  • Leonard Williams is getting a three-year deal from the Seahawks worth $21.5 million per season. Sam Darnold is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Vikings worth $10 million. The NFL is nice work if you can get it.
  • Later today, I’ll have an outrage regarding the USC women’s basketball team (which no one else will say).

VIDEOS OF THE DAY

It was a sad day for music Monday.

  • Karl Wallinger, the frontman of World Party, died at the age of 66. Below is one of his biggest hits, “Put the Message in the Box.”
  • Eric Carmen, frontman of the Raspberries and a successful solo artist, died at the age of 74. He had some huge hits (“All By Myself” and “Hungry Eyes”) and below is an appearance on The Midnight Special.

  1. If any athletes deserve millions it would be the rough-and-tumble NFLers although I would prefer to be a kicker– “I’m holding out for $50-mil to see what they’ll say”

    1. No shock he didn’t know the year. For years he didn’t know in what country Beau died!! That was well before the 2020 election, so this is not a recent development. I laugh at idiots who say he is too old for a “second term”. As if he was ever fit for his first!

  3. You wade into politics at your personal peril. The fact is that it is distasteful that opposition ads ridicule Bitin for a stutter. What has that to do with his memory lapses or policies?

    1. But likening Trump to Hitler is perfectly fine. LOL!

Even suggesting the vote has anything to do with democracy, after our current President has done far more to be considered a dictator is also fair game.

It’s hilarious how the Left claims the rules should be this way for them, but THAT way for their opponents.

      1. I’m inclined to agree with what Buddha wrote below. I really don’t recall this supposed stuttering problem when Biden was popping off on the Senate floor about sending his kids to racial jungles (integrated schools). It appears to be related to his deteriorating brain.

    2. He’s never had a speech impediment until his brain ceased to fire on all cylinders, he ” stutters ” because he can’t remember things.

      1. You got it, albeit by accident– when a stutterer is under pressure, and politicians are always under pressure, the stress brings on the stuttering

      2. He’s NEVER stuttered before, NEVER, stop making excuses for this guy. The person that should feel immense shame, and doesn’t, is his wife. What wife would allow her husband to be seen like this ? And she’s fine with him running again !

      4. I’ve said it before…Jill cared more about being First Lady than she cares about Joe. No wife who cared about her husband would have put him out there for public humiliation. It’s not just the U.S., it’s the entire world that is laughing at his dementia. I’m sure Italy and India are not the only countries who have had SNL type of comedic sketches making fun of it.

      2. John — I love your philosophy of kindness and brotherhood…but…. Biden is a bad guy….undeserving of your support. He cancelled his own inauguration and put 20,000 troops around the capital cuz he knows what the American people REALLY think of him —that’s why he’s said things like “These folks who support the 2nd amendment! Hand guns can’t fight F-16’s and tanks.”

We teach our kids that a man can have a baby and that there are not 2 genders but 50-100 and you can be a boy today and a girl tommorow and parents have no rights with their children and we can’t even elect a president who doesn’t have to be led around by his wife or he will get lost in the White House. They must be rolling on the floor laughing.
