USC finally released its 2024 football roster late Monday night and here are some takeaways:
- Cornerback Ceyair Wright is no longer on the team. Now was it his decision or was the decision made for him? Looks like he is going to be an actor full time. So the two corners who were ballyhooed by the coaches last season — Wright and Domani Jackson — are both gone.
- Defensive lineman Stanley Ta’ufo’ou is no longer on the team. He was actually a decent player the past couple seasons and had another season of eligibility, if he chose to use it.
- Punter Aaydn Sleep-Dalton, who lost his starting job last season, is no longer on the team.
- USC lost MarShawn Lloyd and Korey Foreman, but still has two players who will wear No. 0 — tailback Quinten Joyner and safety Akili Arnold.
- Nickel back Jaylin Smith has switched to No. 1.
- Luke Huard is now the quarterbacks coach. He had the unnecessary title of inside receivers coach, which has thankfully been eliminated. Dennis Simmons is now capable of coaching all the wide receivers.
- Taylor Mays, who wasn’t able to find another job after being told he would not get promoted, remains a defensive analyst.
- The recruiting dept. has had more turnover again with a new director of recruiting operations (Skylar Phan) and director of on-campus recruiting (Savannah Reier) being hired. These positions keep turning over, usually from burnout being in the Riley administration.
