Who Would Replace Andy Enfield?

If Andy Enfield takes the SMU job, who replaces him?

I’m going to break it down into categories: People who want the job and people who will be considered.

WHO GETS CONSIDERED?

Brian Dutcher, San Diego State (He would more than double his salary. Just depends on if he wants to make a move at age 64).

Tad Boyle, Colorado (One of the best coaches in the West).

Jamie Dixon, TCU (Almost got job before; might be time for a move after taking TCU to NCAA Tournament for third straight year, which is first for program).

Kevin Keatts, North Carolina State (He’s hot with the Wolfpack in Sweet 16).

Eric Musselman, Arkansas (For $5 million, he might like it).

Tony Bennett, Virginia (He might be tired of the criticism he’s been getting).

Amir Abdur-Rahim, South Florida (Has been a candidate at Louisville and Vanderbilt).

Mark Madsen, Cal (He’s got a clean image, which Jen Cohen will like and L.A. ties as former Laker).

Shaheen Holloway, Seton Hall (An East Coast guy but has track record of improving programs).

Jay Wright, CBS Sports (It’s worth a phone call to get turned down).

Mark Pope, BYU (More money and much better recruiting base).

WHO WANTS IT

Jason Hart, former USC assistant (A popular choice with former players but might be too risky for Cohen since he hasn’t been a college head coach).

Steve Lavin, University of San Diego (You know he would love a chance to return and succeed in Los Angeles).

Josh Pastner, ESPN/CBS/NBC analyst (Former Memphis/Georgia Tech coach will be all over it).

Timing is everything. If Enfield quit a couple weeks ago, Danny Sprinkle would have been a contender. He was an assistant at Cal State Northridge (2000-06; 2008-13) and Cal State Fullerton (2013-19).

  1. Basketball coach Steve Lavin of sucla ‘fame’ goes to SC? –Seems like a good enough field of possibilities for the coveted Trojan job, but it still comes down to the dudes you’re training. Having played the game into my 50s, since retired, the most amazing thing to me is how one’s shooting can be “just off” or “really on”, the unpredictability of it all.

But I haven’t the foggiest notion about strategy or coaching, however give me Alcindor and Walton and I would have figured it out

I went to Loyola High and graduated in 1975. Were you there when Jerry Lewis, Jerry Lewis and the Pacemakers were there? He sang, Diamond Ring, Clown and other 60’s hits.
