USC Morning Buzz: A Lincoln Riley-Clay Helton Comparison

A USC football staffer compared Lincoln Riley to Clay Helton this week. Now that’s a comparison we wouldn’t have imagined.

“The defensive staff is pretty much doing their own thing now,” the staffer said. “They don’t need (Riley). It’s like when Helton was around.”

This contrasts with media reports that highlighted Riley watching the defense during practice.

“He can watch but it’s really running itself on defense,” the staffer said. “They know what they want to do.”

Again, this is a good thing. What defense needs a Mike Leach-disciple’s input?
