Morning Buzz: USC Loses Commitment; Gains Commitment

Trent Perry, USC’s top basketball recruit, has asked for a release of his national letter of intent but will continue to consider the Trojans as an option.

“I am going to take this time to decide which school makes the most sense for me next year while maintaining USC as an option,” Perry said.

This is not a surprise. But it’s also in USC’s interest to wrap up the coaching search as soon as possible, mainly because players in the transfer portal are making decisions and USC has a depleted roster.

  • Trestin Castro, a three-star cornerback from Upland, committed to USC early this morning. Six of the eight commitments for USC from the Class of 2025 are defensive players.

  1. When a kid flip flops just for the sake of it, it’s annoying.

But with a coaching change, it’s much more understandable. He needs to feel comfortable with the person who is going to help shape his future.

  2. He almost might be wondering if SC will even have 5 players to put on the floor

Presuming that Wiley has final say in choosing recruits the guy has done a flip-flop with his sudden obsession with defense

  3. The 3-point controversy continues– turns out it was 9-inches I believe, so no wonder it didn’t pass the eyeball test. SC should petition that they had a better chance with the old 3-point line and that returning it to normal threw them off

  4. I’ll take an interest in a recruit the moment he gets on the field. Otherwise you’re just hoping some dumb 16-18 doesn’t change their minds. Waste of time.
