This Doesn’t Sound Like A Humbled Coach

This might be a quote to remember from Lincoln Riley today on USC’s move to the Big Ten.

“I feel like sometimes it gets made out in the media that the Big Ten is like, some wildly different deal. Like, it’s football, so a couple of teams play with one more tight end. Like, big deal.”

This doesn’t sound like a guy who was embarrassed five times last season (seven if you add the 48-41 win over Colorado and 50-49 victory over Cal). Or the guy who bolted Oklahoma when it decided to move to the SEC.

He might feel differently when he has to go to Ann Arbor, Mich., Columbus, Ohio, or State College, Penn. Luckily for Riley, he only goes to Ann Arbor next season.

But . . . you no longer get to go to Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona, Stanford, Arizona State . . . I could go on with some of the atmospheres in the Pac-12 that were not guaranteed to be challenging every year.

Let’s remember in 2022, Riley went to Oregon State before only 28,768 because of stadium construction. And still almost lost!

  • How many times have I railed the past 2 weeks about this coaches’ narrative that USC would start two true freshmen at tackle, specifically Tobias Raymond at right tackle?

Well, today, Riley said Mason Murphy would start at right tackle, “No question about it.”

Riley said Murphy has actually been taking most of the reps at right tackle in the spring. This is what happens when Riley closes practice. He can make something silly (two freshmen starting at tackle) seem real until he doesn’t want it to anymore.

And some people wonder why I don’t trust coaches.

    Even I knew Mason Murphy was the likely starter, and left tackle could still be Monheim,they just need a starter at center besides him.There are 2 good starters at guard. from last year.

  2. I went to a USC game at Illinois in 1985.

    It was hot and humid.

    The stadium was full, loud and not intimidating

    I’ve been at ASU, Stanford, Cal and Oregon.

    ASU was packed, LOUD and intimidating (game was in the 80’s)

    Oregon was packed, LOUD and intimidating

    I have heard Udub is a bitch to play at when they are good.

    Michigan, OSU, PSU and Wisconsin are going to be LOUD and intimidating, the rest, not so much.

    Bottom line, both conferences have tough places to play.

What you need to understand about Wolfie is that he has a deep-seated inferiority complex that he medicates by bashing people that make him feel insignificant. When Henson was interviewed after the 4th or 5th practice, he said that Tobias Raymond would start if the season began today. Reilly’s statement sounds like there is no way Raymond ever was a projected starter as a RS freshman. A question arises as to who makes the decision on who starts as an O lineman, Reilly or Henson. Sounds like Reilly. On the other hand, Henson may have been just talkin up Raymond to get Mason Murphy fired up to compete for the job.

        Yesterday Gabby admitted that he had no intention of appearing for a boxing match. “Nobody fights over what is said on a blog.” He was incredulous that anyone should ask for an apology. (Posting fraudulently as steveg) In Gabby’s world, men are not the protectors and providers for their families. You can insult their wives, daughters, and mothers with impunity. He has has no code of honor and therefore believes that nobody else should live by one. Although he admits that he will not back up his words with a boxing match, he has now dishonesty posted at least 10 times the exact same response about how he showed up at the gym in Miami.
