When the Dodgers said Reggie Bush would throw out the first pitch Friday, I joked on social media, “Will he bring his Heisman?”
Turns out Bush did bring his Heisman Trophy. Talk about image rehab. Was that the point of the first pitch?
He got his trophy back. He never had to apologize to the USC players who were put on probation. But now it looks like a rebab tour is underway. It never ends.

Too bad we are in the era of the college “specialist” who usually must concentrate on just one sport to the detriment of enjoying the 3 main sports of baseball, basketball and football

Few of us are good enough at sports to obtain a college scholarship, but maintaining our “amateur” status turned out to be a good thing in order to play equally baseball, football and basketball (with some tennis thrown in)

Scotty, how many times do you have to hear this, it wasn’t Reggie who screwed the USC players. It was the corruption of the NCAA. Reggie’s family was given money for his NFL contract by a friend of his stepdad to get him to sign a representation contract. He was not paid by the school (like Oregon did) to play for USC. The only link was their claim that Coach Todd knew about it, which was never proven. Coach T won his case against the NCAA. The NCAA went wild trying to hurt USC.

Correct. The NCAA should apologize to Reggie, the players who suffered through probation….[and Lane Kiffin, Mike Garrett, Max Nikias …. and the entire state of California].

Reggie entered into an agreement with a sports agent during his sophomore year. A clear violation of NCAA rules. The agent then paid the rent on his parents’ home. Reggie later stiffed the agent by hiring another sports agent and the original agent then sued him and Reggie paid him off but not his partner. The partner then contacted the NCAA regarding the violation when Reggie refused to pay the partner.
Reggie’s selfish conduct hurt the school. Loss of athletic scholarships, bowl games, TV revenues, and donations. USC lost hundreds of millions of dollars but Reggie has never taken responsibility or apologized. Then he hires that weasel Benjamin Crump to hold a press conference as if the NCAA wrongfully withheld the Heisman from him. Scott is right to criticize Reggie. He is a cheat and undeserving of the Heisman. I have more respect for Pete Rose.

Uhh Pete Rose bet on his team, the CIN Reds, while he MANAGED them. He managed 4 straight playoff burnouts in the NL West -…..that is the epitome of corruption….it was ‘sealed’ if he ‘faded away’ from any HOF consideration.

The corrupt NCAA organization owes the USC players, and everyone else an apology….NOT Reggie.

Did Reggie retain an agent as a sophomore and continue to play? If so, he is no longer an amateur and broke the rules. Why do people ignore this conduct and act as if he did nothing wrong. The fact that he had some really nice touchdown runs does not excuse the behavior.

No. Reggie did not sign with an agent.

That NCAA “Rule” was illegal. If Haden had any guts it would have made it into the courts long before 2021 when even the Split Supreme Court voted 9-0 confirming this. I still believe Haden did not want anyone digging into the Athletic Department at USC and uncover all of the crap going on under his watch, specifically the Varsity Blues scandal.

If he did not have a contractual agreement with an agent, why did he pay the agent after supposedly breaching the contract. Why did he refuse to cooperate with the NCAA. Why has he refused to speak about the allegations in the press. He acts guilty.

The NCAA at that time was governed by the shadiest characters in any sport. Looking the other way for some teams / conferences and hyper focused on others. It appeared that USC was going to dominate the college football landscape for years. Sure, not a natty every year but in the picture. CA was ( still is ) the Mecca of HS football. USC was blanketing the state and cherry picking other states. This was the corrupt NCAA’s opportunity to end this dynasty before it couldn’t. They knew they had to SMU-like the Trojans to finish them off. Couldn’t be less because the program was too strong. They knew the penalties imposed would close to ensure USC would never regain its prominence. How many kids did this corrupt organization hurt.

Agree that the NCAA is corrupt and selectively enforce the rules. But that does not excuse Reggie’s conduct. He entered an agreement with a sports agent during his sophomore year.
