USC Morning Buzz: Let’s Look At Those Line Concerns

I mentioned last week my concern about USC’s offensive line.

Now here’s how it looks in depth chart form.:

LT/Elijah Paige/Fr./Jonah Monheim, Sr.

LG/Emmanuel Pregnon/Jr./Gino Quinones, Sr.

C/Jonah Monheim/Sr./Micah Banuelos, Fr.

RG/Alani Noa/So./Amos Talalele, Fr.

RT/Mason Murphy/Jr./ Tobias Raymond, Fr.

  • Now there’s a couple different guys you could throw into the backup roles, but they aren’t more experienced.
  • Outside of Monheim and maybe Paige, who is promising, it has a pretty average look to it in the starting five. But if a starter gets hurt, then things get even more dicey.
  • When you look at the line, it becomes shocking USC hasn’t been more aggressive in the transfer market. Offensive line coach Josh Henson admitted during spring practice USC would be heavily involved in adding a transfer but this depth chart would have had me being desperate in December.

USC is recruiting former Texas A&M center Bryce Foster. But new A&M coach Mike Elko apparently decided Foster wasn’t going to start next season and Foster skipped spring drills to focus on track.

Still, USC needs whoever it can get. But remember, this group isn’t blocking for Caleb Williams. They are going to have to actually pass protect for somebody.

  1. Is the OL issue solely on Henson ?

Is it because he can’t recruit ?

The NIL isn’t good enough ?

The offensive philosophy is scaring off OL ?

    All of the above ?

  4. Scooter,

the oline has been a problem since Helton was here. Do you think Riley can up around $2million of his salary per year to help build a oline that would be outstanding? He can write it off on his taxes as a donation to USC.

  5. The picture above of SC vs ND shows off ‘Big man versus Big man” as Marv Goux I believe used to say, and that that Trojan-Irish football tradition is one to hang onto

  6. An aggressive high school 5 star all American offensive lineman prefers a run based offense. So unless USC comes up with millions of dollars, their offensive line will always be mediocre. That pass happy finesse offense that Lincoln Riley runs, dictates everything. It’s one of many reasons why their defense was winded in the second half of most games(No Run Game) It didn’t always fall on Alex Grinch as the media and fanboys insisted.

  7. Whatever happened to the days when USC’s offensive line used to look like this….Brad Budde, Don Mosebar, Anthony Munoz, Roy Foster, Pat Howell, Keith Van Horne, etc. Oh yeah, that’s right, USC is now Pansy Ass Football.
