USC Morning Buzz: Lincoln Riley Wanted Out Of LSU Game

USC coach Lincoln Riley has desperately tried to get out of the LSU game, according to a report from the website, Saturday Down South.

Riley wanted out of the LSU game before USC even moved to the Big Ten and asked his agent, Trace Armstrong (who also represents LSU coach Brian Kelly) to convince Kelly to drop the game.

The story said even after USC hired athletic director Jen Cohen, the athletic dept. tried to offer other opponents for LSU to play. Riley reportedly wanted out of the contest for the past 2 years.

Even Fox Sports got involved, because the network didn’t want USC’s first game as a member of the Big Ten to be broadcast on rivals ESPN/ABC.

REACTION: This is consisent behavior for Riley. He didn’t want to go to the SEC, which is one reason he left Oklahoma. I’m not even sure he was thrilled with USC going to the Big Ten.

The lengths USC went to in the story demonstrate how much influence Riley wields, although a lot of this was before he lost five games last season.

As I said yesterday, LSU’s lost some key players, but it didn’t matter to Riley. He look foolish if USC actually wins the game. Let’s see if USC schedules any more high-profile season-openers now that we know King Riley is against them.

  1. If this is the case then why the hell is CLR still coaching at a school like USC? Once again, this new brand of USC reeks of passiveness that goes against everything that “Fight On!” stands for. USC never shied away from playing the “big boys” of college football because at one time, USC was a “Big Boy” of college football. Remember the days when Pete Carrol would play anybody, anywhere, anytime? CLR it is time for you to pack up your pansy ass brand of football and take it to the Mountain West Conference because you simply do not have the intestinal fortitude to win a National Championship with the mind set that you have.

  2. Coaches USC had or could have had instead of Helton and Riley.

    1. 2019 National Champion LSU
    2. 2024 Preseason Top 6 and 2023 Playoff Team Texas
    3. 2024 Preseason Top 6 Ole Miss

I’m guessing (not really a guess) that Riley wanted Cal Davis back on the schedule.

  3. This says more about Lincoln Riley than anything else. Clearly the Trojans football program is NOT won track for a National Championship going into Riley’s third season. The recruiting is subpar and doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better. The Big Ten plays physical tough line of scrimmage football, which is something Riley has no clue of. Can you imagine John Robinson or Pete Carroll trying to back out of a game? 😂😂

  4. So Helton said “let’s meet up” to Coach O and Coach O said fine – September 2024 in Texas. After the coaching change, Riley saw the match-up on his schedule and went into full Don Knotts mode. He attempted to back-out of the game. He will be forever known as “Cowardly Riley” or “Chickenshit Lincoln” throughout the South because of this action. He should have claimed that the match-up was unfair because Louisiana is closer to Texas than California and proposed to play in a parking lot next to McDonalds in Barstow.

    1. “After the trial and closing arguments, I will let the Defendant know what crimes he is accused of committing. It may be more than one crime and as long as the jury agrees that he committed some type of crime whether state or federal, to be determined by me before deliberations, they can find him guilty of covering up that crime by stating on a corporate form that his payment to his attorney was a legal expense. “

Didn’t we fight a revolutionary war and enact a constitution to ensure this type of thing never occurs! But Trump is a threat to democracy.

    1. Biden already planning on how he’s going to use it tells anyone with a functioning brain that this is entirely politically motivated. You’d have to be pretty stupid to even try and deny it.

    1. Did David Duke say the following:

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

No, that was Biden. What did he mean by “clean.” Does he think all the previous Black candidates were dirty? Did they smell?
