USC Notes: Good News For Baseball?

Scholarship limits for individual teams are expected to be lifted as a result of the NCAA’s huge anti-trust settlement and revenue sharing plan.

That could mean sports like USC baseball could become fully funded. Baseball currently allows 11.7 scholarships.

Imagine if USC no longer to offer partial scholarships against public schools? A player currently would pay at least $32,000 at USC vs. $3,500 at Cal State Fullerton.

USC would have to decide to commit the money to baseball. Other sports like men’s track and field and men’s volleyball would also want more scholarship money too.

If USC makes the commitment, it would certainly make things interesting for baseball. Theoretically, it could just decide to give more scholarships to football and basketball.

But with a new stadium being built and baseball once a glory sport at USC, it would be shocking to ignore the sport when it comes time to award more money, which could happen as soon as the fall of 2025.

  • USC defensive lineman Stanley Ta’ufo’ou will transfer to Arizona.

  1. Good for SC baseball, hopefully, meanwhile the jury wanted testimony from David Pecker to be read back to them, and since Pecker is a Trump friend that might be good for Stump

  2. Now the jury wants the jury instructions read back to them (not surprising since many lawyers don’t understand all of them) and 30 pages of Pecker’s testimony re-read, so this jury is not going to come to a verdict any time soon, and with so much contemplation going on maybe Stump can get a hung jury out of this

    1. Are they not given written jury instructions in New York?

The jurors may believe that paying money to kill a story is a crime. It is not but Judge Merchan and his team of prosecutors did everything they could to suggest that such conduct was illegal election interference.

      2. Speaking of the Instructions, the one telling the jury they can come back guilty even if they don’t agree on the underling crime is obviously reversible error. Improper Instructions get you into ‘direct appeal’ territory. Gotta wonder why Trump’s attorneys didn’t take Merchan up on his idiotic jury instructions.

      3. Their end game is election interference! That has been the goal all along. They don’t care about how much grounds there is for appeal and how obvious it is.

The entire objective has been for Joe to be able to refer to him as a convicted felon over & over again for the next 5 months. They know Joe can’t beat him honestly and are hoping this will help him. You’d have to be a complete fool not to realize this.

      4. It’s hilarious to hear the Left claim this election is about democracy, as they do everything they can to keep the voters from deciding the election.

      5. Right So Cal. Or they say “nobody is above the law” as they prosecute Trump for alleged acts that are not really crimes for which nobody has ever been prosecuted before.

A non-disclosure agreement is not a crime. Paying a paper not to print a story is not a crime. Listing a payment to a lawyer as a legal expense in connection with NDA services or a settlement is proper.

  3. Michael,

My small thought on the Trump trial. I think his attorney will see what happens with the verfict. If found gulty, then they will appeal the decision on many reasons. If a hung jury, then fine. If found innocent, then the other trials will be harder for a conviction. Trump will wear this as a badge of honor when he goes on the campaign trail. I am no lawyer, nor do I pretend to be. This is my un-profession lawyer opinion.

  4. Scooter,

If Sc can add scholis to SC baseball, then they need around 30 scholis. Same with track and field, they will need around 60 scholis. This is where Folt the Dolt screwed up. She has burned down SC with her Politcal Crap wokeness and turning away alumni like a burning bush. Now she has to go eat crow and ask for the money. the alumni will tell her to pound sound. However, they will tell her that they will donate with one condition and that is for her to leave, Now.
