USC Notes: Another Voice Against Notre Dame Game

Joel Klatt has apparently weighed in on the USC-Notre Dame series with Colin Cowherd (of course).

“It’s not USC’s job to move off of Notre Dame as much as it is college football’s job and some overarching governing body scheduling, in particular for parity, so that the best teams have to play the most difficult schedules and the worse teams have some break, in particular in their nonconference slate.”

First, this quote doesn’t make sense. He wants someone to cancel USC-Notre Dame in order to make the best teams play more difficult schedules? Huh? Isn’t that what USC-Notre Dame does?

It’s always dangerous when two Fox pundits get together.

  • Recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong has flipped his prediction on four-star defensive end Isaiah Gibson of Warner Robins, Ga., from USC to Georgia. Gibson committed to USC in March.
  • Four-star linebacker Noah Mikhail of Bonita High School in La Verne reiterated today that he will announce his commitment on June 30. He has scheduled official visits to USC, Oregon and Texas A&M.

  1. Hard to make sense of the Gibson recruiting statement. Is Gibson still committed to SC? Or has Wilfong just changed his prediction? And did the prediction change from Georgia to USC or from USC to Georgia.

    BTW: SC had a big recruiting weekend last week and two more ahead. Any update on how the weekend went and who is a USC commit or lean.

  2. According to this guy it is “college football’s job’ to cancel the SC-ND series if it so sees fit although I would imagine SC and the Irish might also have a say in the matter

    It is interesting how of all the sports blogs Wolf’s is I believe the only one who does not ever respond to inquiries or insults which makes Wolf an easy target

      8. FOX broadcasters spouting the company line isn’t new. It’s another game they have to share with another network. They didn’t blow up the PAC12 just to lose USC/ LSU to ABC/ ESPN and USC/ND to whoever is airing that.

  4. USC and Notre Dame are the two most successful college football programs and both private universities….Heismans…NFL draft picks….etc.. Their games are legion for any serious follower of college football.

    The photo of Gehrig and Ruth prior to the 1927 game @ Soldier Field.

    ANY other program would give ANYTHING to have that kind of historic publicity to display and it will be 100 years since that game a mere three years hence come this November.

    For Klatt – that quote is insanely stupid – the game is a ratings bonanza for any network. NYC has no college program save Rutgers. You go back there and you’ll find Irish fans everywhere and there is nothing any denizen of NYC loathes more than LA. Klatt is a fool for saying such idiocy…..

    For anyone to give any credence to anything Cowherd spouts is no different than someone listening to Jim Cramer for stock picks.

    Cowherd sees genius whenever he looks into any mirror – sweet when PMS mock him as Petros did this morning on 2Pros and a Cup of Joe (subbing for Jonas Knox) bringing up Cowherd Papadakis noted his (Cowherd) asking some guest if they ‘…are you Montana Ave or Wilshire Blvd….?” (I remember the exchansge – it was late last year) with how there’s a difference btwn. those who shop on Montana (snobs) and the rest – hoi polloi.

    Papadakis had a point – Cowherd is the ‘expert’ on everything and it truly is a shame that T.J. Simers didn’t work long enough to have had a ‘go’ at Colin because he would have let loose on him every single day.

    2. If Cowherd were a black woman instead of a white man I would think he was a DEI hire. He is consistently wrong on all his predictions. A few years back he was actually advocating for Helton, saying that USC could not find a better coach. Whenever Colin spouts advice or predictions, sell it short. You can make millions.

        How do you measure “his NFL picks have hit at over 70%.” ? Who got the best player available at that particular position in the draft? How do you determine that metric? Are the unique needs of the drafting team considered and whether the pick satisfied that need considered? Do you consider injuries and longevity. Number of starts, pro bowls, All Pro awards?

      4. Gabby says that Cowherd hits on 70% of his picks against the spread. That is total bullshit like most of his comments. There is a reason why the Vegas sportsbook makes money. Because fools like Gabby aka the blog dunce/village idiot think that people can consistently beat the spread and spend what little money they have trying to do it.       6. Cowardly Gabby: The odds of winning any particular bet are about 50%. If too much money goes to one team then the Sports Book adjusts the points, ect. so the action is roughly divided. It is very difficult to hit on 3 bets with no losses on any particular week. I bet you can’t do it. Publish your 3 “sure shot” bets on the blog on Thursdays before the games during the football season and we will see how you do. My guess is you will end up at about 50% for the season. You will not reach 70% and neither will Colin Cowherd.
