Dan Hurley turns down Lakers in 2024. Bob Boyd turns down Lakers in 1969.
History repeats itself.
Also, Jerry Tarkanian and Mike Krzyzewski turned down the Lakers job.
Henry Bibby will take it.
- USC is recruiting four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon of Lucas, Texas.
There is only one Daylon McCutcheon and he played at USC in the late 1990’s.

“Henry Bibby will take the Lakers job.”
The Lakers have fallen, but not that far.

Bibby couldn’t convince his own son to play for him. His son, Mike Bibby, ended up winning a championship at Arizona.

And that was a younger Henry…

Bibby did take the Sam Clancy team to the Elite-8 but unfortunately they met Duke, the eventual champion, and lost out on a Final-4

Instead of listing who turned down the Lakers, the Blogger should revisit history and reminisce about who turned down USC before Pete Carroll was hired.
The story goes that Pete may have been 4th or 5th down on the list before he sold himself to USC.

Since the demise of Jerry Buss, the Buss family have been notorious in paying on the cheap for head coaches thus, as noted by Trojan 1967, the number of head coaches since Phil Jackson.

The Lakers should have never let Jerry West go as general manager. Magic Johnson was a great player but horrible GM.

West spoke about being run out of town by Phil. West was close to both Shaq and Kobe – perhaps if Phil had better sense and didn’t see West as a threat, then Lakers might have a few more championships.

Remember after Jerry passed away – Jimmy Buss took over as GM and then stated he and his bartending friend were going to find 4 great players to make a dynasty i.e. – no need for anyone professional who actually has worked to put together a franchise – to have any input. That’s the same logic Arte Moreno’s used ever since Bill Stoneman retired as Angel GM nearly 20 years ago. Moreno relies on his fraternity buddy from his days at Univ of AZ making him (Dennis Kuhl) the ‘CEO’ of the team. Then he hired a younger exec from his billboard corp., who also was a member of that same frat at AZ, as the ‘President’ of the LAA – John Carpino.
I loathe the Dodgers but give them credit once they got rid of Frank McCourt the new owners understood the need to hire true professionals coupled with their assets. The Lakers need to rid themselves of HRH LeBron and hire a solid coach.
Note this article plow specific to your comment – I had no idea West was treated so shabbily by the Lakers – published in 2022
Jerry West calls relationship with Lakers ‘horrible,’ says it’s ‘too late’ for any kind of reconciliation – CBSSports.com

Rusoviet: Really sad to hear that Jerry West was treated so poorly by the Laker management. He was my favorite athlete of all time growing up. Seemed like he never missed a clutch shot, even hit one from beyond half court against the Knicks to force an overtime in the championship series. I will get some backlash but he is on my Mount Rushmore of basketball players.

The Buss family totally f’d up the golden goose that was the Lakers. I mean, how do you crap on Jerry West (aka Mr. NBA/Mr. Laker) to the point where he wants nothing to do with the organization? After he signed Shaq and traded up to get Kobe for an aging Vlade Divacz and swapped draft picks…and then he is run out of town because Phil is threatened by the extent that the team loves Jerry… the acorn fell a long ways from Jerry Buss. The Buss kids didn’t have enough sense to bring in some professionals to run the team.

Plow yeah 1970 @ The Forum the 60 footer to send the NBA CS game into OT and they still lost that night to the NYK….that loss epitomized the futility of the team but the heart of West was akin to Carl Yastrzemski’s career with BOS.
Once ‘Showtime’ arrived all the real magic was gone – the Hollywood has beens trying to prudently resurrect their relevance by hoping the camera would swing by and Chick or someone would say ‘Why look it’s (fill in the blank) is here tonight!’ The word got out to every agent in the TMZ.

I was at that game where West threw up a prayer from half-court that was answered, and I was beside myself because I thought it had won the game until my dad said “Time for overtime”

The 1960s and early 1970s Lakers were the second best team in the world to the Celtics which was not an insult to lose to Bill Russell, and the heartbreaker in 1970 to ‘Limping’ Willis Reed but Lakers finally break out in 1972 (Gail Goodrich!) with the future looking bright as coming our way are Magic and Kobe

It’s easy = they’re ‘ganefs’ per the seizure they arranged for Chavez Ravine paying $200,000 for all that acreage as well as mineral rights and then Walter O’Malley charged Gene Autry (wait for it) $200.000 for the right to call themselves the ‘Los Angeles Angels’ in 2005. Frank McCourt, Commissioner Bud Selig, and ‘ye olde’ Vin Dawg went ballistic denouncing the move and threatening suit. None of them even thought what made Moreno think he could do it.
