USC Saturday Buzz: Recruit Looking At Alabama

Five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry, who decommitted from USC this week, is visiting Alabama this weekend.

  • Cole Leinart, the son of former USC QB Matt Leinart, has transferred to Redondo Union High School. He previously attended Mater Dei and Newport Harbor.
  • Former USC basketball player Drew Peterson played in three games with the Boston Celtics this season. He is now an NBA champion.
  • Did you see softball will be played in Oklahoma City for the 2028 Olympics? I can’t think of a better place.

  2. Scott Wolf why did Justus Terry and Gibson de-commit!? Somebody suggested that it was a breakdown within USC’s NIL (not the coaches). Terry’s X comments suggest he “really” wants to get paid.

    1. Charles: I listened to a USC recruiting podcast and the gist of it was Gibson and Terry wanted and expected to receive payola/NIL payments immediately while still in high school. If that is the case, let them go. Any oral committment from a 17 year old is voidable based on their age. You can’t be paying high school players who have not signed a LOI or enrolled in the university. They could take the money and then sign with another school and amazingly still be within the NCAA rules.

      1. It was funny when a lot of the boxes that magically appeared overnight in 2020 were 80%+ for Dementia Joe, a statistical improbability. Do they up it to 100% this year and try to sell it as being entirely reasonable?

    1. Obviously, players are chasing dollars in the wonderful new world of college football. But it does say something that we keep losing people on both sides of the line —while we mostly retain QB’s and receivers. I’m gonna go out on a bit of a limb and say our O and D line coaches aren’t exactly inspiring confidence, loyalty and lifelong commitment.

      1. Riley has a great track record with QB’s and WR’s. They’re unknown right now, but D’anton Lynn and Eric Henderson are going to shock the world (or at least the Big Ten).
