USC Morning Buzz: Lincoln Riley About To Feel Heat

The Big Ten media days start today. USC will be in attendance Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. PT.

I don’t expect too much news to be made this week but for Lincoln Riley, it’s going to kick off what will be a completely unique position for him.

For the first time in his career, Riley is feeling some heat and under severe scrutiny. He’s not a media darling anymore, although being in L.A. affords him better treatment than he would receive in New York or Philadelphia.

The thing is, last year Riley was thin-skinned and that was before USC’s season went into a tailspin. From Day 1, he was complaining about things (like Christian Roland Wallace’s suspension) and going off on the refs unnecessarily in the first month of the season when USC was 4-0.

People might roll their eyes at Paul Finebaum’s recent tirades but Riley’s never experienced it before and he doesn’t like it. Keep in mind Riley has someone constantly blocking accounts on Twitter of anyone who is at all critical.

I don’t know how he will hold up if USC faces some actual adversity to start this season.

  1. Where does Wolf get his inside information that Wiley has “someone constantly blocking accounts on Twitter” of any critical comments about him. Certainly as a football coach he has to be familiar with criticism after every loss

    1. They came for the Dean of the Business School, and no one resisted.

They came for a doctor at the Medical School, and no one resisted.

They came for the University President and had him replaced, and no one resisted.

      They are now coming for……..

  2. Kamel-a– When the President and you, the President-Wannabe, broke off talks you were searching for some common ground between the 2-parties, so I am for a ‘no books ban’ policy, how about you?

Stump: Let me put it this way to you, if there are any books favoring me I’m all for it

    1. Hi ED! You need to have a talk with the Harris campaign ASAP. “For some reason” your $50,000 contribution isn’t showing up on their official donor list….

  3. Scooter,

With all of the distractions coming this season and with him trying to be the head coach, he will come up short at one time or another. However, has Riley finally accepted the responsibility of being the SC coach and man up and take it and discuss these things like a head coach or will he still complain? He will have a lot on his plate. He has to step up now to being the head coach and not being an offenisve cordinator.

    1. Oh I don’t know, PT, Wiley is wiley and he has been around the coaching ‘block’ once or twice; now his command when addressing a large group of footballers probably is the mild type, contrary to many coaches’ ‘fire-and-brimstone’ styles. But coaches come in all styles

    2. Wow, that’s more incoherent babble that only reinforces your low football IQ. Stick with the racist comments you’re better at

      1. If Gabby is a “waste of time” why do you constantly respond to him, dumba*s

There you have it folks, the dumbest man on the internet!

Wait for it; he will respond with more incoherent babble…..3-2-1

  4. -And I guess Coach Carrot will not be having any SC dealings in his retirement. Pity. If I worked at SC I’d try to coax him on-board in some capacity but perhaps Riles would not approve

  5. Riley was correct to call out the Pac 12 refs last year for retaliating against the team that precipitated the end of their Pac 12 gravy train.

The only suggestion I’d make: Lincoln can’t get “pneumonia” if he loses a big game this season. That only works once [at the most].

  6. If we put any stock into these pre-season college predictions, and who doesn’t, SC’s Moss is worse than 4 quarterbacks he will play against but better than 3, so that is a 3-4 Trojan record if judging by the quarterback position only

  7. SC’s Moss is a concern because of the uncertainty, he has only played one-game where he wan’t rushed very hard, so how will he handle the madman Michigan rush

Everybody is rooting for him because he is SC and is a good character guy. But as John McKay might say, ‘There are a lot of good character guys out there who can’t play football worth a damn’

Well my check is in the mail brother. Kenny Hahn and Janice Hahn send their regards but EDWIN Moses says you railroaded him. THAT damned L A Times was stupid to not let you tell your story. Yep. It would have been the height of hypocrisy for you to continue there. Kiss Susan for me my old friend. And I’m always here to help you. Vote Kamala.
