USC Morning Buzz: Lincoln Riley Finally Meets Media

Lincoln Riley opened up his Big Ten media day duties at Lucas Oil Stadium this morning.

“We’re all glad that it’s finally here,” Riley said of USC’s first official Big Ten function.

On hiring defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn: “The number of names that wanted this job was pretty cool. I loved his NFL experience and we shared a lot of similar beliefs on how great defenses should be played.”

On USC being a topic at other conference’s media days: “That’s part of being at USC. Everything is going to be sensationalized one way or another. You’ve got to take the good with the bad or the crazy or however you want to describe it.”

On USC’s NIL: “This thing’s got momentum. It’s coming, nothing’s going to stop it. That’s fine. They started at a different point. We’ll see where it ends up.”

On USC playing better defense in the Holiday Bowl: “There was just a different mentality around the football team. Those six weeks. It was almost like you had a different team, and in some ways we did. It’s a great blueprint for us going on. The bowl game was the most together our football was last season.”

On the current roster: “Our defense, we know that’s an area we have to have a jump. People inside the walls, who actually know what’s going on, fuel that momentum.

“The momentum is undeniable; the progress is undeniable from what we took over two years ago. We’re just going to keep stacking these classes on top.”

“We almost were a different team in the Holiday Bowl.”

“What was different? We had a ‘team guy’ at QB instead of a One Man Miracle Show —- that’s why I’m switching the ‘team guy’ out for Jayden Maiva so we can go back to being a One Man Miracle Show.”

    1. If Jayden comes in to save the day —which is possible — I’ll be the first person to acknowledge your degree of savvy in this limited field [Actually, I’m ALREADY the first. You understand…. and should stick to….. the subject of football]……

  2. “The Censor is coming, the Censor is coming,” or whoever is manning Wolf’s blog as he wipes out comments for no reason. Time to write our stuff on paper before trying to record it here. Is this too going to be wiped away?

    1. …no notes needed….. “just re-phrase counselor” [a sentence we’ve both heard come out of various judges’ mouths several hundred times during our years of trial work]…..

  3. So that comment made it through. Better to just write soundbites for now

Feisty are we today, Coach, but it is always easier to be optimistic before the Season opener

  4. Still NIL seems to be improving although other schools “started at a different point” ahead of SC

  6. This is a sad day in American history when a war criminal is allowed to address Congress. He should be in prison for all the innocent people he slaughtered. He brings no talks of a peace treaty…. His own country hates the guy. Modern-day Hitler!

  7. gabbby aka waste of time,

Kordell Stewart ran the ball back in the 90’s at Colorado. Brady played at a time when they had running qb’s, dipfeces. As far as, “What a Maroon”, you are a complete and stupid idiot at the infinity level. If you ever watched Bugs Bunny, you would know that he called his cohorts Maroon. Maroon is a way of calling you a moron. Don’t bring up anything about me watching Bugs Bunny or any of diaherrea of the mouth that I am stupid because you had ask me what a Maroon was, MAROON.

    1. When you fail to dazzle them with brilliance, then baffle them with bull$hit. Once again, this is modern-day football, not the ’70s when you were the waterboy for your local high school football team.

quit being a pest, and go help karma service his goats…..
